New band and all kinds of new stuff he's got going Speaker 2 00:00:14 On. Yeah. He's up for, uh, a Grammy, which is, uh, pretty cool with Luke, uh, Kurtz Balls. Speaker 1 00:00:19 Yeah. And before we jump into it, we just wanna say thanks to our sponsor of today's podcast, crown Heads, Speaker 2 00:00:24 Crown Heads cigars, Nashville's own cigars. Speaker 0 00:00:37 It's the characters Friday. It's Speaker 1 00:00:59 We the beach. Oh my God. Yeah. Everyone's like, I heard you almost lost your nipple to a con con. What? Yeah, there was, I mean, I was drinking and the drinks on this one island were really, really expensive. But they're extremely strong. Yeah. Like they were just, you just got one drink and you were done. And I had two and Colleen found a con shell and it, it's got the little piers in there. Little, what is that? Like a crab or something? I Speaker 2 00:01:20 Guess if it has PS it's probably a crab, maybe a scorpion. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:01:23 It was basically a, a scorpion in a shell. And Drew was like, you should have it put on your nipple. And I was like, okay. And then I just, like, I had a moment of sobriety and was like, no, I shouldn't do this. And then that drunk local guy that lived on the island was like, yeah, that would've ripped your nipple off. He also Speaker 3 00:01:40 Said it wouldn't have let go, let go until something the sun went down Speaker 1 00:01:44 Maybe. Yeah. Until the sun went down. Anyway, that would've been bad. That was the most blessed trip of my life. Dude. Speaker 2 00:01:50 Should we intro to the podcast? Speaker 1 00:01:52 Yes. All right. Go ahead. Speaker 2 00:01:53 Hi, I'm Nick Trussler and this is Speaker 1 00:01:56 Raz Rowdy podcast featuring Drew Parker. Welcome. Drew. What's Speaker 2 00:01:59 Up? And we have this Kurt guy with us too. Speaker 1 00:02:01 Yeah. Oh yeah. Mine's Curtiss on. Yeah. And I almost took my off with a con con. I should know this. I'm from Florida. Con Shell. Speaker 2 00:02:08 I think it's right. Luckily it looks like the video's working cool too. Like, I think we got this figured out now. Speaker 1 00:02:13 Dude. Let's go. Love it. Let's go. Let's podcast. Professional Speaker 2 00:02:16 Podcast. Welcome to the luxurious podcast studio. We appreciate you Speaker 1 00:02:19 Being here. It's way nicer than Bobby Bones <laugh>. Speaker 2 00:02:21 Yeah. Bobby Burns had no money. This is exactly what Speaker 0 00:02:25 It'd be like <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:02:26 True. But that's not the case. Speaker 2 00:02:28 Oh, that's awesome. Well, dude, thanks for coming over. Um, I know we've done a podcast before. We did it over at, uh, Riverhouse. Yep. I was like right after Covid, right? Speaker 3 00:02:38 No, shoot. I bet it's been longer than Speaker 2 00:02:39 That, man. It's been a while. I don't remember. Yeah. But, uh, your world's a little different now. Yeah. And uh, that's what we're here to talk about. Let's talk about it. Um, Kurt was like, Hey, uh, me and Drew are drunk in the islands and he wants to come on the podcast. I'm like, yes, let's do that immediately. Speaker 1 00:02:55 That's how we should book all of our podcast guests <laugh>. Speaker 2 00:02:58 We should just be drunk in the island. Speaker 1 00:02:59 Yes, absolutely. Speaker 2 00:03:01 <laugh>. So I was struck in the island and Yeah. Mean Speaker 3 00:03:04 Don't, I don't think I was drunk on the island. Kurt was definitely drunk. Speaker 1 00:03:07 Sure. Yeah. I was, I was. That's why I'm doing dry January is cuz of that trip. Oh my man. For sure. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:03:12 Well, I mean, you have to, you have to clean the liver out every once in a while. Speaker 1 00:03:15 Every once in a while. Yeah. Yeah. Before we get back on the road. Speaker 2 00:03:18 Yes. That's, yeah. It's gonna be dirty liver time probably for you. Speaker 1 00:03:22 Yeah. Getting back together with Jake <laugh>, Speaker 2 00:03:25 El Bape himself. Well, you were, uh, on the road with Drew for a while, like doing some, some fun touring and such. Speaker 1 00:03:33 When was that? 2018 you were on tour? Luke Combs. Speaker 3 00:03:37 Oh man, I don't, yeah, no. Speaker 1 00:03:40 I think it was like, well, I mean, most recently you were on the Run the Arena tour run. Speaker 3 00:03:45 Yep, yep. On that. And then I was, yeah. I was out there. Uh, pre Covid. I, man, COVID messed everything. I know. Speaker 2 00:03:54 Time doesn't exist. We're in the Matrix, that's why. And Speaker 3 00:03:56 True. Yeah. That's what this was all about. Speaker 2 00:03:58 Yeah. Yeah. I like, yeah. I don't know. I see it every day. We're more and more in the Matrix, the cooler my life gets, the more I'm sure I'm in the Matrix. Right. Speaker 1 00:04:05 Yeah. <laugh>. Yeah, for sure. Um, yeah, Speaker 3 00:04:07 So I was, yeah, I think 2018 That sounds right is me. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:04:10 That, Speaker 3 00:04:10 That was Luke Ashley and, and Luke. Yeah. And then this time was me, Ashley, and Luke again. Um, Speaker 1 00:04:16 But we were doing Sold Out arena shows. Sold Speaker 3 00:04:18 Out Arena shows. Yeah. Yeah. Hell yeah. It was Speaker 1 00:04:20 Awesome. Well, tell us about your tour that you just started. Speaker 3 00:04:23 Yeah. Kicked off, uh, my very first headline tour this past weekend. Hell yeah. Let's Speaker 2 00:04:27 Go. Speaker 3 00:04:27 It was insane. Uh, I mean, played, got to play Georgia Theater, sold it out. I mean, that's Speaker 2 00:04:34 Amazing. Congratulations. Speaker 3 00:04:34 Dream. I mean, dream venue for me. It's definitely top five venues for me. I grew up in Georgia, obviously. Um, so I mean, it's definitely on the venue bucket list for me, so to get to sell it out, I mean, incredible. Speaker 1 00:04:46 Who else is on the bill Isn't, is no on, Speaker 3 00:04:48 No Speaker 2 00:04:49 On Speaker 3 00:04:49 It Love. Yep. So Speaker 2 00:04:50 Another good Georgia Speaker 1 00:04:51 Boy, another good podcast guest as well. Speaker 2 00:04:53 Yeah. We've had him on the pod. Speaker 3 00:04:54 Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, I mean, it was great then when we played, uh, Cody Joe's in Charlotte. Yes. And I mean, I love it there, dude. I think the last time that I played there, like, it wasn't technically a headline show, but it was like <laugh>. I was still playing like probably 75% covers, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. I mean, there might've been a hundred people there and then we did like 1500 there this past weekend. Let's Speaker 2 00:05:16 Go. Hell yeah, Speaker 3 00:05:17 Man. That's awesome. I mean, and then Greenville, South Carolina, the Blind Horse. So same thing. I Speaker 2 00:05:22 Love both those venues. Just Speaker 3 00:05:23 Awesome. Speaker 1 00:05:24 Yeah, it sounded like, uh, from what we were talking about before we started recording, it's you kind of leveled up your live show as well. Speaker 3 00:05:30 Yeah. I mean, it's like if you, if if it's been a while since you've seen me mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, really, if it's been since before last weekend Yeah. You gotta come back because, uh, yeah. I've added a still guitar player. I've added a fiddle player, um, and we're playing a lot of new music. And like I was telling you before we did this, Kurt, like I remember over the last three years, my show's kind of been the same. Um, and at times certain shows, it would feel like it would take days for 75 minutes worth of a show to get over with. Speaker 1 00:06:03 Yeah. And, and for the people listening, if you're an artist that's playing, you know, an hour and a half set and you've got one record out that's 40 minutes long, it's very difficult to fill that time slot. Speaker 3 00:06:15 It really is. You got, you Speaker 1 00:06:17 Gotta, I've done it with Jan and I've done it with, when I played for Michael Ray, it's like, yeah, what do we do? You know, how do I play 90 minutes? Speaker 3 00:06:23 Yeah. And then it, because you don't also, we're, you're also trying not to be a cover band. Right? Right. You're trying to say, I'm an original artist, I write my own stuff, that kind of thing. And if you don't have a lot of music out, it's hard to do that. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, fortunately for me, 75 Minutes was a, a lot of my original stuff and then songs that I've wrote for other people as well. Yeah, yeah. But then it was still, I mean, a bunch of covers. And so this new show, I think I do, I'm trying to think like, I only do like two full length covers in mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Like, I do like a medley thing with like, where it's just like all the beers, which is one of my songs. Yeah. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, which I, I didn't was, I didn't, I didn't even think about Speaker 1 00:07:07 <laugh>. Let's talk about, yeah, we gotta talk about that too. Speaker 3 00:07:09 Okay. Let's talk about it right now. Okay. So all the beers, we go from all the beers straight into, uh, boots. Scoot and Boogie. Heck yeah. So, but it's not like we go all the beers in the boot Scooting Boogie, like Cossa Boot Scoot and Boogie back into all the beers mm-hmm. <affirmative>, so that kinda thing. Um, but all the beers. Yeah. I rodee with, uh, my good friend Driver Williams. Yep. And when Ray's rowdy was first a thing, how many years ago? When was this? Like five, four years ago. 4, 5, 4, 5 years ago. Okay. Driver comes in and he was like, dude, I keep, you know, the Rays rowdy. And I'm like, yeah. He's like, man, they keep hashtagging all the beers on everything <laugh>. And I'm like, yeah, I've seen that. He's like, why don't we write a song called All the Beers? And I'm like, okay. And so we did and I put it out. It's been awesome. People love that song. Speaker 1 00:07:54 It's super fun drinking song. It Speaker 2 00:07:56 Is. That's a great live show song. Speaker 3 00:07:57 It is. You know, it's great. Yeah. And like, it's in a section of the show now where it's like, I have a new, I have a All the Beers part two kind of song called Middle of Nowhere Class. Yeah. I love that song. Um, and I go that all the beers, boots Scoop and Boogie Vince Gill, what the Cowgirls Do Cover, like, and it's like a super fun part. Speaker 1 00:08:19 It's like a honky tonk. Speaker 3 00:08:20 It's just a honky tonk section. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And, uh, it's a lot of fun. I I love that part of the show, dude. Speaker 2 00:08:25 I love Middle Of Nowhere Class too. That's one of my favorite series. Speaker 3 00:08:28 So I, that's one of the first songs I've wrote in Town Middle of Nowhere class, uh, which I also wrote with Driver Williams and Eric Dillon. Yeah. Um, there's a lot of cool lines in that song. I can't wait for people to hear it. Oh, yeah. Because if you've never seen me play live, uh, you've probably never heard that song. I, cause I don't know, maybe I've teased it unless Speaker 2 00:08:48 You were on Facebook when you wrote it and Will you listened to it there, Speaker 3 00:08:52 <laugh>? Maybe that that's what it Speaker 2 00:08:53 Was. Dude, I remember hearing that song and I was like, dude, this is it <laugh>? Yep. Speaker 1 00:08:56 Well, like Facebook Live or something. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:08:58 Well he just did like a Facebook video after. Yeah. I think Speaker 3 00:09:00 After that's what it was. Yeah, Speaker 2 00:09:02 That's right. God, Speaker 3 00:09:03 I'll have to go Speaker 2 00:09:03 Find that. I remember that man, because I was like, damn, this is a good song. Speaker 3 00:09:06 Yeah, that song's old. I mean, it's, it's stuck. It's like stuck around for a while. Speaker 2 00:09:10 Yeah. I won't say the the lyric that's in it, but it involves IPA and I love it. Yeah. <laugh>, it's, you have to wait to hear. So Yeah, Speaker 3 00:09:17 I don't wanna give it away because like, it's funny because everybody, obviously while you're gone, everybody brings up B P P B R. Yes. So now I'm gonna be this like, uh, what do you call it? Like Speaker 1 00:09:29 Acronym? Acronym Speaker 3 00:09:30 BEER acronym Acronym Speaker 2 00:09:31 Guy. Because Speaker 3 00:09:32 This song also has IPA in it, but there's an acronym that also goes with it, but Speaker 2 00:09:35 I can't wait. Speaker 3 00:09:36 So people are gonna love it. Um, it also says White Trash in the song Speaker 1 00:09:41 Classic, Speaker 3 00:09:43 Which I think is, you know, rad, Roddy fans Speaker 1 00:09:45 Are gonna Yeah, no doubt Speaker 2 00:09:46 That 1000%. Yeah, <laugh> for sure. Yeah. We are all trash no matter what color, but yeah, Speaker 3 00:09:51 <laugh>. Yeah, it's gonna be, it's, it's awesome. So, um, I I I'm excited for people to hear that and a lot of new music, other new music too, so, yeah. Speaker 2 00:10:00 So the name of the tour is the name of the most recent single, right? Yep. And how long are you guys touring? On and on? Speaker 3 00:10:07 So right now the, the headline tour is ending in the middle of March. Cool. Um, Speaker 1 00:10:12 And what's the name of it for the folks out there trying to buy tickets and Google it Speaker 3 00:10:15 At the end of the Dirt Road? At Speaker 1 00:10:16 The end of the Speaker 2 00:10:17 Dirt Road. All the best Speaker 3 00:10:17 Things. You're the single and the tour. Exactly. Yep. Uh, so yeah, is right now let's go into the middle of March. But who knows, man, I mean, if things go well and Speaker 2 00:10:29 I was on the, uh, you carry it Peach, peach Tree website, like looking at shows and, uh, cuz like we, we'll go like on the road once a month and I'm trying to line up one to come see you somewhere. Come on. Yeah, Speaker 3 00:10:40 Yeah. There's gonna be, there's gonna be some good ones on there. Heck yeah. Yeah. So you have to come out. Speaker 2 00:10:44 Yeah. Yeah, man, it's, uh, it's been great to like, you know, watch you grow and you know, from the first, like, when you were on with Luke the first time, like our whole crew would come out super drunk and like <laugh> say hi to you. Right. You're <laugh>. Yeah. Speaker 3 00:10:57 Yeah. Just Speaker 2 00:10:59 To see Speaker 3 00:10:59 Progress. Yeah. It's been awesome, man. And like this tour, there's like some, there's some dates on here and like some venues that I've never been to like Yeah. Minneapolis for, for instance. I mean, I think it's gonna probably sell out. Yeah. And I'm like, dang, Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is, it's a Speaker 2 00:11:17 Long weird Speaker 3 00:11:17 From Georgia. Exactly. It's a long way from Georgia. So to think that there's a lot of fans up there, Chicago's the same way. Um, man, I mean, I'm super excited. Speaker 1 00:11:26 Chicago's kind of been like a, it's like a country music haven Speaker 2 00:11:30 Recently. It's the biggest one. It is. Speaker 3 00:11:31 It's the biggest Speaker 2 00:11:32 Country. Speaker 3 00:11:32 Crazy market. Speaker 2 00:11:32 Crazy. It is nuts. There's just so many people there. And the Midwestern mentality is very country, you know. Well, Speaker 3 00:11:39 I gotta I gotta say this and man, if, if you're not from this place, don't hunt me down and kill me <laugh>. But one of my most favorite place to play is Ohio. Yeah. Oh yeah. And I feel like every country artist has to, if you don't say that, like you're wrong. I don't know. What Speaker 2 00:11:56 Is it there, man, I, I would love to tell you because I lived in Pittsburgh and we would go to Ohio for shows all the time. Cuz it's a better vibe, Speaker 3 00:12:02 Isn't it? It is. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. It's insane. I've never had a bad time in Ohio. It's Speaker 2 00:12:05 Country folks, man. And they're like, for sure they're starving for country music, you know? Speaker 3 00:12:09 Well, dude, I'm down to give it to Speaker 1 00:12:11 The Dusty armadillo dude. I love that place. Speaker 2 00:12:13 I love the Dusty. Speaker 3 00:12:14 Yeah. It's crazy, Speaker 1 00:12:15 Man. First time I played there and I was like, I packed up my gear and was like walking around to get a beer and everyone was like, oh my God, you're the guy. And like you were on stage with the Jan Kramer and I was like, yeah, so, and they're like, can we bought you beer? And I was like, hell yeah, absolutely. <laugh>. I thought I was like, so cool. Speaker 2 00:12:34 <laugh>. That's awesome. Well, I mean, you are. Speaker 1 00:12:35 Oh, thanks. I love that spot. Speaker 2 00:12:37 Not as cool as Drew, but like, Speaker 1 00:12:38 You know. Well, yeah, definitely not <laugh> Speaker 3 00:12:40 <laugh>, Speaker 2 00:12:41 Uh, you don't like, you know, have a song that supper a Grammy or anything. Oh Speaker 1 00:12:44 Yeah, true. Speaker 3 00:12:44 He gets to play on it every night Speaker 1 00:12:46 Though. Yeah, that's true. That's true. So I'll see you at the Grammy's. Yeah, dude, I saw, I was talking to Rob and I'm like, dude, we gotta get together. Let's smoke a cigar and hang or whatever. He's like, oh yeah dude, I'll see you at the Grammy's. And I was like, what? That is so fucking cool to say, to say, Hey dude, let's just hang out. Let's smoke a cigar at the Grammys. As Rob was telling me, I'm like, okay, Rob, I'll smoke a cigar with you at the Grammy's for sure. Speaker 3 00:13:07 Isn't that crazy? Yeah, Speaker 1 00:13:09 Dude, obviously you're gonna be there, right? Yeah, Speaker 3 00:13:11 Yeah, we're going, I, I have a show in Houston the night before, so I'll be in Houston and then fly to LA uh, Sunday morning. So that's gonna be, I mean, I might be like wide-eyed and bushy tailing for sure. Barely hanging on. But dude, I mean, holy crap. I don't, I don't, don't still don't. I don't know. When does it seem real kind of thing? You know? It's Speaker 2 00:13:33 Not gonna for Speaker 3 00:13:34 A while, man. I mean, I'm that's Speaker 2 00:13:36 Like up here. I'm not real. That's Speaker 3 00:13:38 Definitely, it really is. I mean, it's, it's like, I mean, the, the joke for me, like I went to, we had a, like a Grammy Nashville nominee party thing last week and mm-hmm. <affirmative>, uh, I was doing some interviews and they were like, so what's it like? And the, the joke is like, dude, I, you know, the only Grammy I've ever known is my grandmother. Speaker 1 00:13:58 <laugh>. Are you gonna use that line if you win? Yeah, you should when you win. Sure. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Um, well, so what's a, what's the award you're up for? It's a Speaker 3 00:14:07 Country song of the year. Yep. For, uh, doing this? Yeah. Speaker 1 00:14:10 Best song. Ever award. Best song. Ever award. Yeah. So you Rob and Luke? Yeah. Damn. That's wild, man. It's just like, I remember just like meeting Rob, like, and then meeting Luke and Luke had that neon and now you guys are like up for a fucking Grammy dude. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:14:24 Crazy man. Where'd you guys write that? Speaker 3 00:14:27 Uh, Luke's house. Luke's house? Yeah. Yeah. During Covid. Crazy. So what's crazy to me is like, I mean, we wrote that song, we weren't playing shows, dude. We didn't know if we'd ever get to play a show again. You know what I mean? And it was like, it was like, all right, if if we never get to play a show again, and if nobody ever hears a song we write again, or if this is the last song that people get to hear that we ever write, what do we wanna say? And it's like, well, maybe we wanna say thank you for giving us the job we have, but even if we didn't have it on this level, she'll be cool to, if we have to move back to North Carolina and move back to Georgia. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:15:06 Move my mom and dad Speaker 3 00:15:07 Sit on a bar stool, like Yeah. Still cool to play music, you know? Yeah. So that's kind of where that was born from. Speaker 2 00:15:13 And I love that too. It just, like, that's the mentality, man. Like, there's so many people in, you know, at Razor Valley, like we work with all different levels of musicians. Right. But I mean, the first dream is just getting to play Music is your job. Speaker 3 00:15:25 That's it. You know, dude, I, I, I remember like when I first moved to Nashville and people would like ask you like, all right, what's your goal? Or like, you know, and literally my only goal was to figure out a way to make enough money to pay my bills and that just be what provides for my family. Yes. Speaker 2 00:15:43 10000%, Speaker 3 00:15:44 Whatever that is. Like, you know, whatever that is. Right. You know, to pay, buy groceries, make sure there's gas in the car, make sure my kid has diapers. That's it. Like I, anything past that is just gravy. Yeah. Right. It's Speaker 2 00:15:59 A win. Speaker 1 00:16:00 So I've like, I had the same thing. I was like, if I could just not work in a fucking restaurant, <laugh>, please God. And I was teaching guitar lessons and like, I was teaching like 30, 40 a week and, you know, playing gigging some, I was like, and they're like, okay, I've done it. And then I was like, man, if I could just, maybe if I could just play music and not teach as much, you know? And then I did that and then I'm like, I'm running outta like life goals here cuz I've already done, like, I've paid my bills with music, you know? Yeah. And like, which is like, there's a million, trillion, billion musicians in the world and only, you know, of the 1% that are like any good, only like the fraction of that are able to pay their bills Speaker 3 00:16:38 Somewhat. That's why I think, you know, when people, people are like, I think people still look at me and look at a lot of people and go like, well, well maybe one day you'll make it. And I'm like, dude, I've already made it for sure. Speaker 2 00:16:49 We're 10000% Speaker 3 00:16:51 Paying my bills. Like, I don't know, like, what do you, you know? And like people now might go, well yeah, you've made it, you've nominated for a Grammy, but like, even pri like take that away. Like paying paying my bills was my goal. That was me making it for me because that was where I set the bar. And so once you reached that, it's like, yeah, you made it there. And anything past that was just, Speaker 1 00:17:14 You know, so true man. Speaker 2 00:17:15 I mean, songs on the radio, you got that checkbox baby let's go Speaker 1 00:17:19 <laugh>. You know? Yeah. But it's like even not even having that, it's just like even less than that, it's Yeah. Still, like I'm just so thankful that I'm able to do it at some capacity. It's great. Right. Speaker 3 00:17:28 Yeah. Speaker 2 00:17:29 Did you get to do a radio tour? Did you kind of miss that? Like No, Speaker 3 00:17:31 It, so, well, Speaker 2 00:17:34 I would love to, to Speaker 3 00:17:35 Talk radio tour. We Speaker 1 00:17:36 Same, Speaker 3 00:17:37 I was l so I did a lot of Zoom stuff obviously. Yeah. Cause I signed my record deal in like November of 2020. Yep. Um, dude, lemme tell you how sad and lonesome this is. Oh, I signed my record deal on my computer laying in my bed with Covid Speaker 2 00:17:53 <laugh> Oh my. Along. Gosh, Speaker 1 00:17:55 That's awesome. Something, Speaker 2 00:17:57 Something Speaker 3 00:17:57 You moved to town to like, hope to do. And then I just, I'm laying in there by Speaker 1 00:18:01 Myself, just all sick, Speaker 3 00:18:02 Sick. Just by myself, you know? But anyway, I, so I signed my record deal in November of 2020. So then we did a lot of Zoom stuff. Um, and then mad dude, I flew so much in 2021 Speaker 1 00:18:15 <laugh>. Oh yeah. Speaker 3 00:18:16 Wen cuz we weren't touring so there was no, I mean, maybe a little bit, but it wasn't like radio tour. Like, I'm gonna go play a show and also go visit radio station at the same time. It was a lot of like visit radio stations and not really go play shows and then maybe go play some shows. Yeah. Um, Speaker 1 00:18:36 I love the Warner Radio team though. Oh yeah. They're awesome people. Yeah. Speaker 3 00:18:40 They've been great. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, Speaker 2 00:18:41 We have a event we're working on with Warner coming up, so maybe they'll ask you to play, who knows? Yeah. Speaker 3 00:18:45 Yeah. Speaker 2 00:18:46 <laugh> Speaker 3 00:18:46 Request me. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:18:47 <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:18:48 Hell yeah. Yeah. No, we don't need Blake. We need Drew. Yeah. <laugh>. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:18:52 There you go. Well that was always like, when we were doing those live streams, we would like work with like a publishing company or someone. Yeah. And we're like, we want B Brett Chiro. And they're like, why do you want B Brett chiro? Like, Speaker 1 00:19:01 He's badass. Speaker 2 00:19:02 I was like, cuz he is awesome. And, and like we love his music. We've been premiering his songs for a while, you know, know. Yeah. It's just like what we're fans of. It's Yeah. We Speaker 3 00:19:09 Don't want Blake Sheldon or Kenny Chesney. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:19:11 Those guys are fine. You know, maybe we like them as long as they're on the round with you, you know? Yeah, yeah. <laugh>, Speaker 3 00:19:17 I don't know if I wanna sit in that. <laugh> up stays between those two Speaker 2 00:19:21 Guys. Well, well, can they play ones they didn't write? You're right. Yeah. Yeah. You might have more number ones than they have written. You might have written Grammys more number ones. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Speaker 3 00:19:30 Doubt it. Speaker 2 00:19:31 It's, that's probably true. Yeah. Probably Speaker 1 00:19:32 Quit. You be, you be humble. That's how Rob is too. He is like, dude, shut up. Quit Jinx in it. You know, <laugh>, it's like that baseball player mentality where it's like, you never like say it before it happens kind of a thing. Yeah. Superstitious. Speaker 3 00:19:43 It's like I'm still wearing the same socks from when I found out. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:19:46 Smart move. I shower and everything. No, you just shower straight at 'em. Let 'em try <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:19:53 Ugh. Speaker 2 00:19:54 Well, let's, let's talk about the new single. So we talked about the, you know, the the tour release, but, um, talk about the song and like who you read it with and what it means to you a Speaker 3 00:20:03 Little bit, actually. So what's funny? First song I ever recorded that I did not write. There you go. At the end of the Dirt Road. I, I mean, I obviously I look up to Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw. Yeah. Um, those kind of guys who, you know, cut outside songs and mostly Yeah. Um, you know, I think a lot of their songs were good that they were out, they were outside. And so, um, I never wanted to put myself in the box. I of only writing my own stuff. And I think, you know, um, I think there's some people and, and I think I would probably different if I hadn't had success as a songwriter mm-hmm. <affirmative>, because you wanna prove yourself. Right. Right. Yeah. So like, there's part of it's like, God, I gotta prove myself as a writer writer, so I can only cut my own stuff. But for, for me, like having the outside cuts with like Jake Owen and Luke. Yeah. I feel like I can go, I don't have to prove, like, I don't have to prove that. Yeah. I Speaker 1 00:20:58 Mean, you're going, Speaker 3 00:20:59 So like, I feel comfortable like cutting outside songs in that sense. But also, uh, uh, Jameson Rogers, Ben Hayslip, and, uh, bury Hill wrote this song at the end of The Dirt Road Speaker 1 00:21:11 Love Jam. Speaker 3 00:21:12 Yeah. And Hayslip sent it to me and I'm like, dude, is Jameson not recording this <laugh>? And he's like, I don't think so. So then I texted Jameson, I'm like, dude, are you not recording this song? He's like, no, are are you gonna? I'm like, Speaker 1 00:21:27 Yeah, Speaker 3 00:21:28 <laugh>. A hundred percent. It was like, it was probably, I almost wanna say it was the first outside song I listened to. Speaker 2 00:21:36 Dang. Speaker 3 00:21:37 That's awesome. And I was like, man, somebody did their job with a and r and nailed this one because this song's perfect for me. Speaker 1 00:21:44 It sounds like a Drew song for sure. Yeah. It's just country is chicken shit. For Speaker 3 00:21:48 Sure. For sure. Yeah. So Speaker 2 00:21:49 I love that though too, in my head, like, as an artist, right? Like, you're gonna be more and more as your career grows on the road. Right? Like, that's just how it goes. Yeah. Yeah. So like, I would want artists or songwriters to pitch me songs. Yeah. You know, I would want Speaker 3 00:22:05 That. No, and I mean, man, dude, you wouldn't beli, there's so many good songs in this town. Oh my gosh. Yeah. I've listened, I've heard so many of 'em. And some, you know, some of 'em just aren't for me or Right, right. For this time of my life, but I'm like, geez, that is the best song I've ever heard. Yeah. Um, I mean, there's one, and we can dig into this, but I'm gonna have a EP coming out later this year. Yeah. And there's a song, there's another song on it that I did not write, um, that is quite possibly one of the best country songs I've ever heard in Speaker 2 00:22:34 My life. Dang. I love that. Speaker 1 00:22:35 No. Uh, Speaker 3 00:22:36 And it's called King of Country Music, so, Speaker 1 00:22:40 All right. Speaker 2 00:22:41 Why Can't wait to hear it. Speaker 3 00:22:42 Really good. Speaker 1 00:22:43 Yeah. What, so are do you have a date for the e p right now, Speaker 3 00:22:46 Or no? Not, not yet. But it'll, it'll, I mean, I'm just kind of playing by ear honestly, man, because like, I mean, it's been, it's been a while. It's, I mean, I've released at the End of The Dirt Road, it's the third song I've released in probably two years, I guess. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. So like, I have this EP done, and, um, I don't want to just pump 'em out and then be like, it be like, you know, two years since I've released three songs in two years, and then I, here I am releasing 10 songs in five months mm-hmm. <affirmative> and then not be ready for something else. So like, just kind of being impatient and letting people fall in love with every song that I put out slowly. And, um, I'm, I just don't wanna, I don't think there's a need to rush it, but also too, like, you know, who knows what else I'm gonna write or what else I'm gonna get sent to me and Yep. Speaker 1 00:23:37 Yeah. As soon as you finish the EP then you'll write the best song you've ever written. Exactly. That's how it always goes. Speaker 3 00:23:41 Yeah, for sure. Which is fine too, but I mean, I don't know, man, I, I don't think there's any, I don't have a plan. I mean, there's like mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I have dates like penciled in for like songs, and so maybe like every six weeks I'll put something out or something. I don't Oh, yeah. Um, we'll see. Speaker 2 00:24:00 Honestly, like that's a good way to do it. Like, in modern times it's like each song gets their day in the sun. Exactly. You Speaker 3 00:24:05 Know, that's the thing. You don't wanna, like, I hate saying this, but you don't wanna blow your load on like Yeah. You know what? I, Speaker 1 00:24:11 You can, you can say that on your product. <laugh> Speaker 2 00:24:13 <laugh>. Well, it's, it's, if you do that, they'll have a focused song. Exactly. And that's the one that'll get on playlists. Right. And then some people will listen to the rest of it and pick their favorite and they'll put that on their playlist. Speaker 3 00:24:24 That's Speaker 2 00:24:24 The thing, you know? But like, but why not? If you have six different places? All right. Speaker 3 00:24:27 Like, like if you're, look, if it's like a rollercoaster, right? Yep. All right. Why not? Why are you gonna put another song out before this one's even peaked? Yeah. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Because it's gonna make the peak of this song like, sooner, right? Yeah. So why not see maybe it getting right to the top and then come with something mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. I don't know. I don't, nobody knows the right way to do, Speaker 1 00:24:46 There's so many different ways. There Speaker 2 00:24:48 Isn't a right way. Yeah. Yeah. I Speaker 3 00:24:49 Think the only people that know the right way to do this is Hardy and Morgan Wallen and <laugh>. I mean, they're crushing right now. My Speaker 2 00:24:55 Dad's. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:24:55 Yeah. Literally Speaker 3 00:24:56 The dads. Speaker 2 00:24:58 No, it's, it's just, and dude, it's funny, like working at a label now. I like see more of it, but it's like they don't, they're just figuring it out too, man. Everybody is, you know? Yeah. I mean, they just have songs that are working, you know, everything Speaker 1 00:25:11 Changing Speaker 3 00:25:11 So fast. And, and I think that's all we're working for is like, you know, you know, I th I'm pretty positive I know my fans as you know, really well, I know what they want. Yep. But also there's a lot of people out there who aren't fans of me yet, uh, you know, and geez, to get them. So gotta find the way to get them and Yeah. And then just keep building on that. And so, um, I mean, if you like country music, I think you'll like my stuff, but No Speaker 2 00:25:38 Doubt you will. Yeah. Yeah. That's his country's Speaker 1 00:25:40 Cornbread. Who's uh, producing it? Speaker 3 00:25:42 Scott. Scott and Phil Billy? Hell yeah. Speaker 1 00:25:44 Classic. How many number ones has Scott Hendricks produced? It's over 60. Speaker 3 00:25:49 It's, I think it's in the seventies now. Speaker 1 00:25:50 Jesus. Speaker 2 00:25:52 God bless. Speaker 3 00:25:52 Yeah, dude, we were talk, I mean, we were talking like, I don't, oh, I was like so middle and back to Middle of Nowhere class, which is, I've just cut Speaker 2 00:26:02 Smash, Speaker 3 00:26:03 You know the song, the Allen Jackson song? I don't even know your name. Yeah. And they, like, at the end, like, everybody gets a solo, like there's a piano solo, fiddle solo still. Well, I was like, I told Scott, I'm like, dude, on middle of nowhere class, we're gonna do it. And then everybody's gonna get a solo. Like, I wanna do, I want to Speaker 1 00:26:21 Just have Speaker 3 00:26:22 A jam, dude, I don't even know your name. And he is like, yeah, the, I produce that <laugh>. And I'm like, you Speaker 2 00:26:27 Cool Speaker 3 00:26:28 <laugh>? I, I think he, I think he produced, I don't even know your name, Speaker 1 00:26:31 Dude. Speaker 3 00:26:32 That's, but he definitely, he produced a lot of that early Allen Jackson stuff. Brooks and Dunn. Uh, I mean, the list just goes on and on Speaker 1 00:26:40 And on and on. Yeah. I had something like that happen to me. Um, a buddy of mine, Bruce is a pedestal guitar player, and I posted a video of me playing Brooks and Dunn, like, live from the Luke show on Instagram. He's like, I remember when I tracked that song, like in the studio back in the day in the nineties. I was like, well, I hope I did it justice. And he like said like, yeah. Oh, something like that. I was like, okay, cool. Speaker 3 00:27:01 Yeah, it's crazy. It's Speaker 2 00:27:03 Amazing. It's, uh, in and getting to play that, those songs in front of people is where you see it. So you got to do that this weekend, right? Yeah. You have those, the set. Awesome. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. And then, uh, where are you at this upcoming weekend? Speaker 3 00:27:16 Thursday night. I'm in Birmingham, Alabama. Do Speaker 2 00:27:18 You know the venue? Speaker 3 00:27:19 Uh, Zydeco. Nice. Yeah. Um, classic Friday night I'm at The Bluff in Memphis, Tennessee. Cool. And then Saturday night I'm met Rick's in Starkville, Mississippi. I Speaker 2 00:27:28 Love Rick's Speaker 1 00:27:29 Man, man, I miss Club Toes Club shows. I mean, damn. There's so much fun. She Speaker 3 00:27:34 Said Club Toes. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:27:35 <laugh>. I miss club shows <laugh>. Yeah. I understand why Garth did like the club tour. Yeah. You know what I mean? It's like I want to go play all least that fun. Yeah. It's awesome, man. Fun. And they're sweaty and you're right there with the crowd and it's, Speaker 2 00:27:47 Yeah. You can see if they love the song or not quick, you know what I mean? Oh yeah. You watch it, you know, they don't have to know it, but you know, if they love it. Yeah, for sure. By the end of it, they know part of it, you know. Yeah. Dude, Speaker 3 00:27:57 I love that. I mean, end of the what, fortunately I've never been able to see this, but like, if, if the dance floor clears out, then you gotta figure something out. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:28:06 <laugh>. Yeah. No. Quickly Speaker 3 00:28:07 Turn into a cover set. Yep. Speaker 1 00:28:08 Well, at one of our shows in Canada, there was a, uh, people were like line dancing on stage. Right. And there was a, a huge brawl in stage Left pit at the same time. Dang. Speaker 2 00:28:20 Canadians get wild. Speaker 3 00:28:21 Dude. Speaker 1 00:28:21 It was crazy. Speaker 3 00:28:22 Dude. I remembered this when I was, so the first time that I was on tour with Luke, with Ashley, I was just solo acoustic. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:28:32 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Speaker 3 00:28:33 And we played in Canada and like this whole tour, like we were ending in Canada, it was gonna, it was like the end of it and the whole tour. Like, I think I had the set with, uh, uh, I wanna ask Hang, why do you drank? All right. You know, there's a callback part of that. So we get to Canada Speaker 1 00:28:50 Family tradition. Yes. Family tradition. Speaker 3 00:28:52 Oh my God. We get to Canada Story and I'm like, Tim, Hank, do you drank? And I would stop for the crowding back and Canada dude. Nobody said anything <laugh>. It was like, they don't know. Crickets. I was like, dude, I, I wanted to crawl under the state. It's so crazy. <laugh>. It's, it was terrible. I mean, but I'll, I'll learn. Never sing Family Tradition in Canada. Speaker 1 00:29:14 <laugh>, dude, the fan. They've gotten like so much more into it. It's like e even since I've been touring Canada, which is, you know, like seven years or something like that. Yeah. I've just felt like this last show. And maybe it's cuz you know, I'm with Luke, whatever, but it's just like, they were insane. Canadians love country music now. It's like they're, they don't have enough shows up there or something. I don't know. Yeah. It's like they love it. Speaker 2 00:29:34 There's, and it's crazy in Canada too. Like they have Canadian country artists, but they like know our country too. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And it's like a mix of that. There's so many great Canadian artists too. There are like, it's crazy. Speaker 1 00:29:46 Yeah. Like we were just hanging with, uh, Jade dude. Jade. Speaker 2 00:29:49 Yeah. Jade Eagleson. Do you know Speaker 3 00:29:50 Him? I don't, Speaker 2 00:29:51 Dude, he's Speaker 1 00:29:52 Great. You love his music, you like his music. It's a brought up your hour. It's traditional country. Good. Love it. Super country Speaker 2 00:29:55 Cool boys. He's a good guy. But, uh, he just was big as heck in Canada. Yeah. And like some people knew him here, but you know, not every, it's not like he's a household name here, but in Canada he is. It's wild. They would just have a different scene. Yeah. Dude, his band up there plays Twin Fiddles. It's country, you know? That's awesome. It's cool. And it's like, it's, there's country in Canada just like, there's country here, you know? Oh, for sure. Like, you think countries in Ohio, but it is, right. Speaker 3 00:30:21 Well I think it's surprised, you know, a lot of people are like New York, right? Yeah, Speaker 2 00:30:24 Dude, Speaker 3 00:30:25 I love playing in like the suburbs of New York even. For sure. I mean, there are some country music fans up there. Yeah. Oh yeah. Awesome. Speaker 2 00:30:32 That's where our buddy Matt Burrell's from. And that's like, you know. Oh, I know. Yeah. <laugh> Speaker 3 00:30:36 Big old country boy. Yeah. Oh yeah, Speaker 1 00:30:37 For sure. <laugh> Speaker 2 00:30:38 From the city, but he loves the country. Yeah. No, no. But man, it's uh, it's cool to see those club shows too. Like, I always like, well we actually went down, I went down to Coyote Joe's to catch the Hardy Show. Mm-hmm. Cause I'm like, this is the end of the club shows. Oh. You know, like, I'm like, I have to see it before it's, he sell Coyote Speaker 3 00:30:55 Joe's out three nights Speaker 2 00:30:55 In a row. Yeah. It's nuts. Did he really? Yeah. I think they said he was the only one to do three nights in a row. Sold out there. Speaker 1 00:31:02 Garth's gonna come back and do four Speaker 2 00:31:03 Nights, do seven <laugh>. Yeah. Keep, keep that secret. They're Speaker 1 00:31:08 Like, Garth, stop playing here. He is like, no, <laugh> like three months in a Speaker 2 00:31:11 Row. <laugh>. But there's just something about those club shows and as, you know, just a fan like I am, it's like, it's every seat there is like being in the pit, you know? Yeah, it is. So like, even if you're in the middle of that, you still feel like you're in the pit. Yeah. You know? So I just, that's where my heart lives. And it's funny because like I have so many friends that are like, gosh, I can't believe these tickets for these stadium shows are so much money. I'm like, go see these $10 shows. Yeah. These are the people that need your money and support. Like, go buy a t-shirt there. You can get a hotel and a t-shirt and the tickets and half of your beer and it's the same price as a ticket to a big show. You know, half Speaker 1 00:31:46 Of the beer Speaker 2 00:31:47 <laugh>, not all of it, but half of the beer, half beer, <laugh>. And uh, it's like, there's, there's so many moments too where I'm like, man, like I remember seeing Turnpike Troubador at Joe's on Weed Street for the first time. Yeah. And just being like, in awe, dude, Speaker 3 00:32:02 I went, so this was, this is really cool. So sold out George Theater this past weekend. So when before I moved to Nashville, probably nine or 10 years ago, I went and seen a show there wasn't sold Out. Probably five, 600 people there. Chris Stapleton. Gosh, Speaker 2 00:32:18 It's crazy How guys, right? Speaker 1 00:32:20 Yeah. That's, Colin saw him that way too. Like, you know, 5, 5, 600 people somewhere in New Jersey or New York, Speaker 3 00:32:27 Or same thing in Athens. It wasn't at the George Theater, but it was at, um, there's another venue there. The foundry in Athens suck. Cody Johnson. There maybe 15, 20 people there. Speaker 1 00:32:38 No. So crazy way. Speaker 3 00:32:39 Swear. Speaker 1 00:32:40 What year was this? Speaker 3 00:32:42 2014 maybe. Okay. 2015. Crazy. Speaker 2 00:32:47 Well, it's like my first, that's a while ago. My first flip show was at Jal's, him and Rob acoustic on a Tuesday night for free and there was like 30 people in the whole bar. Yeah, yeah. You know, Speaker 3 00:32:56 Well that Speaker 1 00:32:57 Gotta start Speaker 3 00:32:57 Somewhere. The night I met Luke eight and eight years ago, Ron George of the Brew House, there was 40 people there. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:33:04 Crazy. Speaker 3 00:33:05 Bradley Jordan paid me a hundred bucks to come open. Hell Speaker 2 00:33:07 Yeah. Speaker 3 00:33:08 I mean, that was the biggest a hundred dollars I've ever made in my life. Cuz I mean, thank Speaker 1 00:33:14 You Bradley. No. Yes. Yeah. Yes. Thank you, Bradley. Speaker 3 00:33:17 It paid, I mean that it paid off to say Yeah. And think that teaches that's what I'm saying. I think it teaches you a lesson, man. Like, don't for all the up and comers out there, man, freaking take every opportunity you get. Like, there's nothing, I mean, you have to, you gotta take every op and even not an up and comer, like, whatever it is. Like, man, you gotta take every opportunity. Speaker 1 00:33:41 I, I mean like, I've heard so many stories of so-and-so like overslept for the right or whatever. Yeah. You know, and like missed, like, didn't like Sha Moony miss out on his third of the song Tequila cuz he was like hungover from tequila the, like the day before. Missed the writers. No clue. <laugh>, maybe that's a rumor. I don't know. Well, Speaker 2 00:33:58 There's, there's a bunch of stories like that. Speaker 3 00:34:00 There's church. I know that big one. Speaker 1 00:34:03 Well, Speaker 3 00:34:03 Terry, I'm not gonna tell the guy's name. <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:34:05 Okay. We'll bleep out. We will bleep it out for a privacy. Speaker 3 00:34:07 I, uh, but it was Jordan Walker. Mm-hmm. Ray Fulcher and Luke Combs. They wrote when it rains at pours Speaker 1 00:34:13 And someone didn't show up. No, Speaker 3 00:34:15 It wasn't, and here's the thing. It, it doesn't make him look bad. So it wasn't that somebody showed up, but he got asked if he wanted to jump in that day. And he was like, he's like, nah, Speaker 1 00:34:27 Was it Chris Stapleton? <laugh>? Speaker 2 00:34:28 No. <laugh>. Speaker 3 00:34:29 He's like, no, I gotta go do something that or Speaker 1 00:34:31 Whatever. Oh my God. Can Speaker 3 00:34:32 You imagine he reach out on being a co-writer on when Speaker 1 00:34:34 It Rains At what? A smash? Oh Speaker 2 00:34:36 Yeah. Oh, sorry about that house payment. You know, <laugh>. Speaker 3 00:34:40 Yeah. I mean he's, the dude's had hits since Speaker 2 00:34:44 So, so he's Speaker 3 00:34:44 Doing all right. He's fine. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Speaker 2 00:34:46 Well it's glad, I'm glad to hear that he's at least not in the poor house then. Speaker 1 00:34:49 Yeah. I love stories like that, man. That's so cool. But Speaker 3 00:34:52 That, I mean, could have been just like, man, you never, and dude, like this morning, uh, like I write for Sony Music Publishing and they're doing, they're like kickoff thing this week. And, um, it's on Zoom and it's just to like, kind of motivate us for the year. And man, I mean, rusty gassing is probably, I mean, Speaker 2 00:35:11 Motivator. Oh my. Everyone says that, man. Gosh, Speaker 3 00:35:13 Dude. Like I'm telling you, you wanna get fired up to be the biggest and baddest thing in music, in country music. Go sit with Rusty Gaston. I I mean, it'll it'll blow your mind. But that's his thing, man. He's like, your goal for this year is just show up. If, if there's no other goal in your life, it's just to show up. Cuz you, you know what's not gonna happen. There's a hundred percent chance you're not gonna write a song. There's a hundred percent chance you're not gonna get a single, there's a hundred percent chance you're not gonna get a number one and there's a hundred percent chance you're not gonna get a Grammy nomination if you don't go to your right. Right. Speaker 2 00:35:52 Yep, Speaker 3 00:35:53 Yep. And dude, like, I can't tell you how many times, like, even like for me like now, it's like I'll have like a random show come up and I'll have to cancel a ride, which sucks. But like, I'm like, man, dude, like if I didn't play, I have to go play this show. Or what, Speaker 1 00:36:10 What, what's your clone yourself? What Speaker 3 00:36:12 I miss, what I, what I miss out on. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll have to call up Elon Musk and see if we can help Speaker 1 00:36:17 Out with that. Yeah. We, one, one at the house and then one on the road and then one on music row. Right. Speaker 3 00:36:22 <laugh> two. That would be which one? Which, okay. I gotta, it's just a fun question. If you could do that. What you could only like, they they could all go function. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:36:33 Which one would you choose to be? Which one Speaker 3 00:36:35 Would you choose to like actually live in? Speaker 1 00:36:38 Well, I know, I know your answer. Speaker 3 00:36:39 What's my Speaker 1 00:36:40 Answer you? I meant if Mallory's listening to this podcast then Speaker 3 00:36:43 <laugh>. That's actually, that is 100 I made it, I'd be at the house. Yeah, Speaker 1 00:36:47 For sure. Um, what, what are my options? I don't have a pub deal, say at home. Speaker 2 00:36:52 Did the Speaker 3 00:36:53 Show play show? Yeah. Um, studio, full-time studio musician. Speaker 1 00:36:58 Oh, I don't know, man. Speaker 3 00:36:59 Or stay at home and, and stay at, but stay at home Includes like stay at home and podcast and like anything other than studio musician and on the road musician. Speaker 1 00:37:08 Um, which Speaker 3 00:37:09 One would you choose to reside in? Speaker 1 00:37:10 I don't know. Not having a girlfriend at all would be really lame, but not playing shows would be lame. I mean, I'd probably stay at home I guess. Ooh. I don't know. Speaker 3 00:37:18 It's tough. I mean, I don't know. You add a child in there, I mean it's easy for me. Speaker 1 00:37:22 Oh yeah. That makes it easier for sure. I got some dogs though. <laugh> Speaker 2 00:37:25 True. Super hot Speaker 1 00:37:27 Girlfriend. Yeah, it's true. But I have a cat also. It makes it easier to be on the road then, so I don't know. Speaker 2 00:37:31 Oh yeah, that cat's rough. <laugh>, his cat's kind of a dick. Speaker 1 00:37:34 Truly. I Speaker 3 00:37:35 Don't know man. What would you do? Nicky T Speaker 2 00:37:37 Oh man. I mean, so like, I went on the road with Trey Lewis and those boys for a weekend on their bus. And uh, when I got back to the office they were like, did that like put a bug in you? You wanna be on the road fulltime? I'm like, abso fucking lely. Not <laugh>, <laugh>. Hey. I was like, that is a lot. Not Speaker 1 00:37:53 Every camp is like the Trey Lewis camp, by Speaker 2 00:37:56 The way. I love those boys by the way. But yeah, of course we're degenerate. So I, I, no, I'm a degenerate on tv. They're real life degenerate <laugh>. But, uh, no, just the bus life's tough man. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, like you're up early and you're late playing that, like having not ever been a musician, like that's a very different thing, dude. If Speaker 3 00:38:15 You can do, try all without like, oh, I, no brutal. I posted a thing on my Instagram, this I saw this Speaker 1 00:38:22 Week. Speaker 3 00:38:22 It was great. I mean, Speaker 1 00:38:24 Loved Speaker 3 00:38:24 It. Like I'm on a bus right now. Love Speaker 2 00:38:27 That. Let's go. Speaker 3 00:38:29 Should I be on a bus? <laugh> debatable. Yeah. Right. <laugh>. But, uh, I mean my thing for 2023 is like, um, like I'm not gonna let some, some sort of small expense or whatever keep me from taking my family to church on Sunday. Yeah, yeah. Like that's important to me. Yeah. And so like, Speaker 2 00:38:52 You're paying for that time back. Speaker 3 00:38:53 Exactly. Yeah. And that's, dude, I think that is the most important thing is like all the really, all the money you spend is just money you're spending. You're paying for your own time. Speaker 1 00:39:05 A hundred percent Speaker 3 00:39:05 To give back. Yeah. And so like that's what I love that for me, that's why I'm on a, that's why I'm, you know, and trusting, also trusting God that I'm gonna find the money to pay for this thing. Right? Yeah. Yeah. I doubt. Um, so, but I mean that's why 2023 is kind of the year of like full blown betting on myself Right on to figure this out. So Speaker 1 00:39:27 My parents' neighbor, um, an older guy like finally retired and got his like dream boat, you know, he's got this like pontoon and he could bring his grandkids out. Now he's like too sick to ever use it cuz he is too old. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know what I mean? And so col you know, Colin and I are talking like, man, should I go on this vacation? Like my friend's having her baby shower. I'm like, you don't wanna be that, that dude that retires and gets the boat and it's too old to use it. You know what I mean? Yeah. It's like you don't wanna be missing every Sunday. Speaker 3 00:39:55 No. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:39:56 Because when you're older you would've paid 10 trillion to get those days back, you know? Speaker 3 00:40:00 A ex ex Absolutely. Yeah. Like I and you man, like I know I have a kid, but like when you like, she'll be three in March, dude. And that crazy, I mean like you, you've heard it your whole life, like time flies. Yeah. You have a kid that you can watch. Like you literally, I mean it's, they're a clock and you're just watching the time like grow mm-hmm. <affirmative> and you're like, holy cow, I can't, dude, I can't, you know, obviously dad, daddy has to go to work and mm-hmm. <affirmative> to, to be able to pay the bills. But, um, it's like you also gotta figure out how to make the most of the time you got while you're here. So, uh, Speaker 2 00:40:40 Has there been a moment where you're like, Hey, I would've missed this moment if I didn't like make sure I had time at home or anything like that? Speaker 3 00:40:49 Um, not one that I can think of off the bat, but because I was a, here's the thing, she was born 2020. Yeah. So I was at home the whole first year of her life. Speaker 2 00:41:02 What a blessing, really. Oh, for sure. As crazy Speaker 3 00:41:04 As that sounds. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And so, I mean, if if Covid wasn't for anything, it was for me and my family, you know what I mean? Yeah. So me too. Um, I feel fortunate in that sense, but like over the last few years now, watching her, like, like she started gymnastics today. Oh. And so I get to be home, got to be home for that and at least, you know, and I, she's doing swim lessons right now, so I actually went and watched her do swim lessons and so, you know, there's those things, um, that I'll, I will miss, you know, eventually at some point. No, it'll suck. But, you know, I think there's also to like miss those things, but, you know, hopefully one day there's a time when I'll not have to, it's like, that's why Garth like went hiatus. He disappeared for like so long, you know, take care of the kids. So hopefully, you know, maybe I'll be Garth one day, one Speaker 1 00:41:58 <laugh>. No, definitely Speaker 2 00:41:59 <laugh>. I mean that's really, start with that crazy. That's Speaker 3 00:42:02 Really what I'm, that's really what I'm trying to say. Speaker 2 00:42:04 <laugh>. Oh yeah. What's your favorite part about being a dad? Speaker 3 00:42:07 Oh man. I mean, it's so real, Nick Speaker 1 00:42:09 With a heavy questions. I love it. Speaker 3 00:42:12 I mean, dude, I it's the, it's the unexplainable thing. I mean, that's literally, it's a, um, I mean, you, you wanna, you wanna feel truly loved, like, and you want to understand like what your parents felt for you or whatever. I mean, have a kid, like, it is insane, man. Like yeah. They, they're annoying sometimes and they kick you in the middle of the night after they're done climbed up in your bed and Yeah. But man, I mean, you wouldn't trade it for the anything in the world. It also, I mean, I think it ma it makes everything about you better because it motivates you, um, a l more. I mean, dude, when you have that responsibility, it's like, all right, gotta do it shit or get off the pot, right? Yeah, yeah. Like it's time to go. And, um, so I think probably that, I mean, it just ma it truly makes you a better human. Makes everything about you. Um, cuz I mean there, if there's ever been a time to grow up, it's when you have a kid, so Yeah. Speaker 1 00:43:12 It's like peeling back a new layer on life. Speaker 3 00:43:14 It is. Yeah. And it, here's the thing. If you, if you ever get to a place where your life, if you're like, eh, I need something. I need something. I don't know what it is, go have a kid, man. I'm telling you. It's, it's Speaker 2 00:43:27 With the right Speaker 3 00:43:28 Woman. Of course. It's awesome with the right woman. Yes. Speaker 2 00:43:29 <laugh>, don't just have one with a Speaker 3 00:43:31 Random person. Probably, probably not a good thing to have one with a random person that would suck. Speaker 1 00:43:34 I'm, I'm about to make some jokes on this podcast. What I'm not gonna do, I'm not, I'll talk about it later. <laugh> say I'm not gonna call out. Yeah. I'm not gonna call out some friends. Uh, you know, Speaker 2 00:43:45 <laugh>, Speaker 3 00:43:46 Dude, I always like podcasts. I li I I love podcasts. Like that's all I, I don't, it's very like, Friday is music day for me. Like I listen to all the new music and then, uh, the rest of my time in my truck or whatever is podcast. Yeah. Especially I'm a long drive. So I'll be listening to 'em and I'm like, dude, why didn't they edit that out? And I'm like, it's probably just too much work. Yes. Speaker 1 00:44:08 Yeah. Speaker 3 00:44:09 Yes. So then you just gotta get it, get to the, so you just gotta get to the point. It's like, just can't say it. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:44:14 <laugh> Speaker 2 00:44:15 Smarter that way. Right. Speaker 3 00:44:17 Uh, Speaker 2 00:44:18 Do you have any favorite podcasts that you listen to a Speaker 3 00:44:19 Lot? Uh, this is, uh, might get me a slap on the wrist. I'm massive. Joe Rogan podcast guy. Heck, you sure? Yeah, he's great. Yeah. See, um, I listen to Bobby Bones. Bobby Cast. Yeah. Uh, raise your reality podcast. Of Speaker 2 00:44:33 Course. Yeah. Especially when you're on it. Speaker 3 00:44:34 Um, <laugh>, what? Oh, one of my big ones is, uh, the Dale Jr. Download Dale Earnhardt Jr. Podcast. Yeah. Um, and Speaker 1 00:44:44 His dude, he's so cool, man. I can't believe I got to meet Junior. Yeah, dude, that was awesome. Speaker 3 00:44:48 His company has another podcast called Door Bumper Clear, which is a basically a NASCAR spotter podcast. And I've become friends with all those guys, so now like I feel like I have to listen. Yeah. And I'm also a massive NASCAR fan, so like, course there's a lot of insightful stuff on there, but Speaker 1 00:45:03 Could you guys all like play video games together and stuff? Right? Speaker 3 00:45:05 Yeah. So dude, Speaker 1 00:45:06 That's like the new networking thing. Speaker 3 00:45:08 Man's like, like Dell Jr. Speaker 1 00:45:10 Playing like called Year, Speaker 3 00:45:12 You're in Covid. I bought I Racing, which is a like a NASCAR simulator type game thing and just started just somehow weezled my way into relationship with all the, those guys. And then he invited me out to his house to play his charity event in 2021. Speaker 1 00:45:33 Do you, uh, drink at that saloon? Yeah, dude, it's so cool, man. It's like Disney World. There he is. Got a whole fake waste western town. Ah, that's amazing. It's, and there's a jail and like, he's like, yeah, it's like the drunk tank of like the, the property. Yeah. It is so cool. Speaker 3 00:45:46 Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, I listen to those and yeah, he's been great. He's a good, he's man, I mean, he's awesome Speaker 1 00:45:52 Guy. So nice. Speaker 3 00:45:53 The nicest guy. Speaker 2 00:45:55 What music have you been enjoying listening to? Anything in particular? Ooh, Speaker 3 00:46:00 Man. Dude, there's a lot of good stuff right now. I mean, obviously I'd be idiot not to mention the Hardy record. Yeah. Um, Speaker 1 00:46:07 Well man, that's fine, dude. I've, I've been enjoying it. Yeah, dude, Speaker 2 00:46:10 It's great. I was like texting Kurt that day. I'm like, Hey, have you listened to the hard record? You Speaker 1 00:46:14 Texted me three times. Speaker 2 00:46:15 I'm like, no. Have you listened to the Hardy record yet? Like, I kept texting him <laugh>. That's Speaker 3 00:46:21 Great. I don't know what my favorite song on there is. Probably screen or radio song. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:46:27 Yeah. Those are great. Reading song is just like, puts a smile on your face. Right. Now doubt. Speaker 3 00:46:31 I'm not gonna tell who, but somebody leaked that to me months ago. Uhhuh Speaker 2 00:46:36 <affirmative>, Speaker 3 00:46:37 A songwriter in town, not leaked it. They didn't send it to me. I don't have it. Speaker 2 00:46:40 They just Speaker 3 00:46:40 Played it. But somebody had it and they were like, dude, you gotta listen to this. And I heard it one time and this was like months ago and I haven't like, forgot about it. And I'm like, dude, I got it. I want to hear that like 10 times. So when it came out, I was glad to get to hear it 10 times. Yeah. Um, Randall King. Yeah. Big round fan Randall. Um, dude, there's a lot of stuff that I'm excited about. Yeah. That isn't out yet. Like Speaker 2 00:47:09 Yeah. Like Speaker 3 00:47:10 From your friends Jake Worthington stuff. Oh yeah. Super stoked for whatever this come Speaker 2 00:47:14 Oncat. Speaker 3 00:47:15 Wyatt McCubbin, I love. Super excited for whenever. Yep. Some new stuff's gonna come from him. Um, Speaker 2 00:47:21 There's some country folks. I love both those boys. Speaker 3 00:47:23 Yeah. Um, man, there's Speaker 1 00:47:25 A lot. You got any on the new Luke record or Speaker 3 00:47:27 No? I don't. Ah, fuck. Speaker 2 00:47:29 Dang. Luke. What the heck? I know. Luke's listening, right? Yeah, probably for sure. Probably. Definitely. For sure. He listens. This is what he does with his time, you know? Yeah. <laugh> <laugh>. Speaker 3 00:47:37 We should just say something really bad so that it gets clipped and sent <laugh>. Speaker 2 00:47:41 Yeah. Dude, Luke. Yeah. Probably not do that. Yeah, we Speaker 1 00:47:43 Should write, we should write some time. Dude, you know <laugh>. Yeah. Let's fly out to Montana. Speaker 3 00:47:47 You won't even write with me anymore. So like why Speaker 2 00:47:49 Is Speaker 1 00:47:50 I don't have a chance. Speaker 2 00:47:51 <laugh>. Yeah. He's actually good at writing Speaker 3 00:47:53 <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:47:54 Yeah, true. I don't know how to write. I'm kidding. Speaker 2 00:47:57 Word's. A third though. Just, just get it out there, you know? Speaker 1 00:47:59 Yeah, no doubt man. <laugh>. Speaker 2 00:48:02 Oh man. But, uh, what is your favorite part about last weekend on the tour? Speaker 3 00:48:08 Just seeing all new fans. Like I finding out that you're capable of selling that many tickets. Speaker 2 00:48:13 That's great. Seeing Speaker 1 00:48:14 People wear your merch, Speaker 3 00:48:15 Seeing people wear your merch. Seeing, seeing people sing the songs. Like man, like, and they're not just singing Why You're Gone, which is the big one, I guess. But like, they're singing all the beers, they're singing, I was lying. They're singing raised upright, you know, they're singing at the end of the Dirt Road that just come out last week. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, so, um, singing Little Miss Saturday Night, like, man, Speaker 1 00:48:38 I love that song. It's so fun. Speaker 3 00:48:39 Cool. Man's cool. Yeah. Uh, so, you know, probably that and, and just seeing, I mean, there's people that were at those shows that have obviously never seen me before. Yeah. Because the last time I played those videos I never saw them. You. Right, right. So I know they're new fans there. Yeah. And so watching it grow gradually like that, um, is super cool to, because I think probably one of the most nerve wracking thing is when we talked about doing this headline tour, I'm like, all right, put your big boy pants on. It's like Speaker 1 00:49:08 I'm a being vulnerable. Speaker 3 00:49:09 Holy cow. Yeah. Because you could, I mean, it's a quick way to be humbled, right. For sure. Yeah. You know? And so, um, I mean that's super scary. Speaker 2 00:49:20 I remember when you played country concert the first time at that side stage and we were up front. Oh yeah. And it was, you know, between sets when the main stages going on and you guys were like, set up and we were chatting with you and you're like, you think anybody's gonna come over here? And I was like, yeah, this place is gonna pack the fuck out Drew <laugh>. Like, they love you're doing it Speaker 3 00:49:38 Did, did man. And I mean, it's, it's Speaker 1 00:49:40 Ohio again. Ohio, Speaker 2 00:49:41 Man. Speaker 3 00:49:41 I think that's like, dude, that's, that's probably where I need some more work as far as like, like, uh, the anxiety levels of my life and like what, what, what makes me like, kind of like nervous mm-hmm. <affirmative> for sure. Yeah. Like, I'm not nervous to get on stage. I'm not nervous to get in front of a crowd. I'm nervous if there is gonna be a crowd. Right. Yeah. You know? Yeah. That's what you want. Like, Speaker 2 00:50:05 Well, when, when it's your own show, you know how many tickets were sold. Exactly. But for sure like first show like that, it's a festival. You have no idea. Is anybody Speaker 3 00:50:11 Gonna come over here? Do they, do they care to leave that main stage to come watch me? Yeah, Speaker 2 00:50:15 They Speaker 3 00:50:16 Did though. Because in my mind they, they Speaker 2 00:50:17 Don't <laugh>. Yeah. Speaker 3 00:50:19 But when they show up, you're like, holy cow, man. And, and I think the other thing too is like making sure that they know how grateful you are that they took the time to come over there. Yeah. Which is also kind of, Speaker 3 00:50:32 That, that's another thing that makes me nervous is like, do I portray how grateful I am for the fans that I have? Yeah. And I hope I do because like when I say it, I'm being genuine about it. But even when I know I'm being genuine, I'm like, does is it coming across as genuine? Do they really understand? Like, thank you so much because you can always say thank you so many times, but like, you know, if you're one listening right now Yeah. Thank you. Like seriously, I mean, because like, you don't have a job without them. Right? Of course. Yeah. You don't, you're not paying your bills without them. Yeah. So, um, you truly are grateful. I truly am grateful. And, um, so there's that aspect of it too. Speaker 2 00:51:08 Um, do you have any new merch that's came out for this tour? For this tour? Speaker 3 00:51:11 Let's see. I I got a little Miss Saturday night shirt. Yeah. That's pretty sick. It's a little neon light shirt cowboy boot on it that I love. Um, got a new hoodie, got a brand new hat that I like a lot. Pretty Speaker 1 00:51:24 Sick. And you brought for us today or what? Of course, Speaker 2 00:51:26 Walter the room. Yeah. <laugh> Walker. Walker. Run. Get those. Yeah. Uh, Speaker 3 00:51:31 No, but I can get you some for sure. Hell yeah. Now that you got cameras on Speaker 2 00:51:34 Yeah. <laugh>, you're like, dude, finally worth the money. Speaker 3 00:51:38 They got cameras on them Speaker 1 00:51:39 Now. Best laughing. Country music. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:51:41 <laugh> <laugh>. Oh, Speaker 3 00:51:45 That's funny. Speaker 2 00:51:46 In our luxury studio Speaker 3 00:51:47 Here. Yeah. Now that you got cameras, I can give you some free me. I'm totally kidding. I'm Speaker 2 00:51:51 Totally kidding. Hey, we'll take Speaker 3 00:51:52 It. I'll definitely bring, I'll definitely bring you some. Speaker 2 00:51:54 I pay, uh, I pay curtain and shirts and t-shirts. There you go. <laugh>. That's awesome, man. What else, what else is going on with you being a dad, man, any, any fun stuff come up in your life? Oh Speaker 3 00:52:05 Man. Speaker 2 00:52:06 How many years have you and your wife been together too? Speaker 3 00:52:09 It will be seven years in June. Crazy. Speaker 2 00:52:11 Yep. Speaker 1 00:52:12 Hell right. Shout out to Mallory. Speaker 3 00:52:14 Yeah. Shout out to Mallory. Speaker 2 00:52:16 Mallory. Mallory wears racer outta gear. Yeah, Speaker 3 00:52:18 She does <laugh>. We uh, we put in a swimming pool at our house. Heck Speaker 1 00:52:21 Yeah. Dude, two months ago. Just loved watching that. She's like following us. She's like, look what they did at the pool of, Speaker 3 00:52:27 My wife is so good at that man. Like, she's like, she's so much better than She's funny now social media than I am <laugh>. That's why keep around. She did the progress of the pool and people. Dude, it's insane how much people like, like if she wouldn't post something, it's like, where's the update? Speaker 1 00:52:42 Yeah. Well, how's the pool doing? Speaker 2 00:52:43 So, uh, Speaker 3 00:52:43 It's crazy how people, how invested people got in the swimming pool. But yeah, it's, it's finally done. And we have, we've jumped in it a few times. We haven't really, Speaker 1 00:52:52 It's cold out Speaker 3 00:52:53 Dude. It's freezing. Yeah. When there was snow on the ground, uh, I jumped in it <laugh>. It was brutal. Speaker 1 00:53:00 Yeah. Oh Speaker 3 00:53:01 Yeah. So I guess I did a polar plunge. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, I'm excited to be able to jump in that thing this summer. And Speaker 1 00:53:07 So are we for the the pool party? Yeah. Speaker 3 00:53:10 The rad rod pool party. Speaker 1 00:53:11 There you go. Speaker 2 00:53:12 <laugh>. Well, that's one of those things too, man. Like, it's like, it's the things like that, you know, like your music helped buy that pool, Speaker 3 00:53:19 You know? It did. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:53:20 And it's gonna be years of things that you Speaker 3 00:53:22 Take you loose combs. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:53:25 No, same. Speaker 2 00:53:26 But man, it's like, that's the stuff that dreams are made of. It is. It's plain playing. Arenas is great. Plain stadiums is great. I'm sure you know, but like plain Speaker 3 00:53:35 Clubs. Well it goes back to it. It all goes back to like, what's the goal it's like to provide for your family? Well, to get to do a little extra for your family is cool too. Yeah. No Speaker 1 00:53:43 Doubt. Yep. Speaker 2 00:53:44 Yep.
