Speaker 0 00:00:04 It's just, it's called Ray Rowdy. Speaker 1 00:00:26 Welcome back to the Ray Rowdy podcast of me, Nick t and my guest today. Mr. Tre Lewis. Speaker 2 00:00:33 What's up brother? Speaker 1 00:00:34 The first ever three time podcast guest, Speaker 2 00:00:36 Man. Wow. Speaker 1 00:00:37 Ray Rowdy podcast champion of the world. That's Speaker 2 00:00:39 Right. Trey Lewis. I was thinking about that when we did it in your old house. Yeah. <laugh>. We had the, uh, sign in the bathroom, said, don't do coke in the bathroom. Speaker 1 00:00:47 Please don't do coke in the bathroom. Yeah. If you're gonna do Coke, bring it out and share with everyone, you know. Yeah. <laugh>. Speaker 2 00:00:52 Yeah. Speaker 1 00:00:54 Um, well, Speaker 2 00:00:56 What would be the fourth time? Remember that time we tried to do the podcast with like 10 people? Speaker 1 00:01:00 Such a train wreck. Yeah. I still have this like, nice box now and I still don't know how to do podcasts with 10 people. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:01:08 I don't know. That was intense, wasn't Speaker 1 00:01:09 It? It was, honestly, it was a lot and then it didn't work good. And then we thought it was working fine and then it did not. That would've been a shit show of a podcast, but Awesome. Yeah, Speaker 2 00:01:18 It was great. Lemme hook this other mic on to me. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:01:20 For content, we're doing double content today cuz we have a luxurious Mr. O'Malley. Speaker 2 00:01:25 Everything is content. Speaker 1 00:01:26 Everything is content. Everything is content. Everything is content. Speaker 2 00:01:31 All right, cool. It's on. Is this, uh, is this good for you? Uh, yeah, it doesn't matter. It's Speaker 1 00:01:36 Shined up, cleaned up, it goes the up pedal down on Main Man. All right. What's your favorite song you ever written? Ready Go. Speaker 2 00:01:42 Oh man. Um, probably just the unreleased ones. You know, like Speaker 1 00:01:47 All the demo jail. The entire demo jail. When you, once you release it, you're like, fuck this song. <laugh>. Yeah, Speaker 2 00:01:51 Exactly. Exactly. That's it. That is it. Ot? Speaker 1 00:01:54 Um, I, uh, I think, well, my new favorite song might be the one that you guys started playing on the road this week. Speaker 2 00:02:01 Well, say that again, sorry. Oh, sure. Some critters was texting Speaker 1 00:02:04 Me. <laugh> Classic Critters. So I said, uh, my new favorite song might be the one you guys just started playing on the road this week. Speaker 2 00:02:09 Uh, heartbreak number two. Speaker 1 00:02:10 Yeah, dude. Yeah. I love it. The tracks are great with Speaker 2 00:02:13 It. Wrote it with, uh, Ben Hay slip and, uh, he's good. Matt McKinney. Speaker 1 00:02:17 He's okay. But you know, <laugh>. Yeah. You can't tell McKinney is too good cause we're Speaker 2 00:02:20 Good to his head. Uh, we and Jacob Rice, he was Oh yeah. He was doing the track that day and he did the, you know, the demo and everything. Yeah. And, um, Ben Haslip was like, yeah, I've been saving this idea. I was gonna write it with Morgan Wallen, but, you know, he was like, let's just write it with you. And I was like, fuck yeah. I'm not gonna. Sounds great. You know, I think if even if it was a bad song, it's, you know, Hey, slips like one of my heroes. I would, it's monster, you know? Yeah. Went with it anyways, Speaker 1 00:02:44 You're like, that sounds good. Let's do it. Speaker 2 00:02:45 Yeah, that's cool. Let's do Speaker 1 00:02:46 It. <laugh>. Um, it's, so you've got the pub deal and you get to be writing in a lot of cool rooms, so I know you still get to write with like, your friends and stuff too. Yeah. Who are some of like the legends that you've gotten to write with? Um, Speaker 2 00:02:56 I got to write with Randy Montana. I've gotten to write, write with him twice now. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:03:00 You played me the one and it's a smash. Speaker 2 00:03:02 Yeah. And, uh, and then I wrote that Mount Rushmore song. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> with him and John Pierce too. Yeah. Um, which is on the release song for those of you listening. Speaker 1 00:03:10 Yeah. You guys should hear that. It's awesome. He played it a little in soundcheck today. Speaker 2 00:03:14 Yeah. I think I put it on Instagram yesterday or something. Acoustic version, but I'm sure more, more will be revealed on that one by the time this pod is out. But, um, I, uh, used to listen to that 2010 Randy mm-hmm. <affirmative> Speaker 1 00:03:27 Dude, his album record, his projects were both so good. Yeah. The album EP, both Fire Speaker 2 00:03:33 And, uh, my best friend Chris, which he was on my podcast and some people know who he is, but, uh, there's a song called Assembly Line and he used to work at Mercedes-Benz. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, like on the assembly line. And, uh, we used to listen to that all the time, so I called him the other day, I was like, Hey man, I just wanna let you know, no big deal. But I've now written two songs with Randy Montana <laugh>, you know, and it's hard for me not to like fan girl when I'm writing with Randy. I bet. You know? Yeah. I'll be like, the other day I asked him, I was like, so, uh, like, did you have anything to do with like, uh, Parker, because he Parker cut like a cowboy. Yeah. And that was on his first record. And he was like, no, cuz like, he was like pretty hard. Was the first song they ever wrote together. Yeah. And then he was like, uh, he was like, somebody told him to go listen to my album and he heard it and he heard that song and he was like, I want to cut it. So That's pretty cool. Speaker 1 00:04:19 It's nuts. Speaker 2 00:04:19 Yeah. And I think Stapleton wrote Speaker 1 00:04:21 That song. Yeah. It wasn't even Randy that wrote it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think so, at least. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:04:25 But dude, I don't know how people didn't just hear Randy's voice back in the day and be like, yeah, this is my new favorite country scene. Yeah, dude, he's, it's so good. Speaker 1 00:04:32 He's like one of those guys that has a very distinct voice. Yeah. Of course. Songs are dynamite. They still are, you know, of course. I Speaker 2 00:04:38 Think what it is is like, him and Josh Thompson were just 10 years too early, but they don't even give a fuck now cuz they have a bunch of number at ones Speaker 1 00:04:44 And No, nobody knows who they are. It's better, you know, <laugh>. Yeah. They can do, they can go to the grocery store with the Speaker 2 00:04:49 Kids. It's a cover on, um, Riley Green singing Way out here. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> on, uh, TikTok the other day. I love that. Fuck yeah. Speaker 1 00:04:55 I love Josh Thompson too, man. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:04:57 He's a badass. Speaker 1 00:04:57 Yeah. He's another one of those guys where you're like, how did this career not work? And he'd be, you know, Jason Aldine big, Speaker 2 00:05:04 But yeah. I mean, beer on the table, he had the long hair, you know? Yeah. Nobody had long hair back then, other than like the Travis trip. Half balded long hair in the back Yeah. For America. Not hating on it. Speaker 1 00:05:14 That's awesome. God bless USA for that. Yeah. You know, but he's, yeah. When Josh's album came out that had all those hits on it, I was just like, this is the next album. Yeah. And that's how I felt like when Party came out, you know? Yeah. I was like, this is it. Like this is the dude, you know, it's like every song's a fucking smash. The Speaker 2 00:05:30 First record or the California first record. Sunrise. Yeah. First, the first record was great. I was open for him. Yeah. Oh, hammer Speaker 1 00:05:35 The day. Yeah. You know, just, yeah. Hammer, hammer, hammer, hammer, hammer. Speaker 2 00:05:38 Trash. A hotel room. Speaker 1 00:05:39 Yeah. Dude. So good. Yeah. So good. Um, it just changed the game a little bit, but I guess like, sometimes it's timing, like you said, like 10 years too early, you know? Yeah. If it would've happened Speaker 2 00:05:48 Later, my first John party record, like it did well for him, but like, in like, not crazy game, not crazy, but the California Sunrise record was Speaker 1 00:05:55 Just like, shot Speaker 2 00:05:56 Him to the moon. Every song was great. Um, uh, and then the latest, the latest album's pretty good. Have you listened to it? Speaker 1 00:06:04 Uh, yes, I have. Yeah. That's good. Yeah. I like 'em all three. Yeah, all three records are great. Um, I definitely still like the first one the best. Oh yeah. But I love 'em all. Yeah. You Speaker 2 00:06:12 Know, my favorites probably the California Sunrise, I was going through my divorce. That's so good. Yeah. Me and McElwain went and saw him in, uh, Birmingham and McElwain was like dancing with these two girls. <laugh> classic. McElwain was just like so drunk that like, they were like, who is this weirdo? And I like stole his girl from him and was like making out with her. It was, I don't know, it was cool. <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:06:31 Oh, those are the best like stories. Now you're at the shows. You have to do that all after show, you know? What's that? <laugh>? You send all the degenerates to do the, the, during the show stuff now. Yeah, yeah, Speaker 2 00:06:42 Yeah, Speaker 1 00:06:42 Yeah. Exactly. You have to do all your dirty after the show. Yeah, yeah. <laugh>. Yeah. But, uh, if, for those who don't know, Trey has taken me out on the road this weekend, so we have this freaking luxurious bus and I gotta bunk down there that I, I slide into every night. Speaker 2 00:06:55 The first rowdy on the road, Speaker 1 00:06:56 First rowdy on the road ever down the road. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's a, it's a blessing to be out here, man. Thanks for sharing your space with Speaker 2 00:07:03 Me. This is a blast. I mean, think about it. I mean, you know, like, I don't know. I mean like, I feel like, you know, you're a big part of Dick down in Dallas and where we're at, you know, you posted the first little video that had some sizzle on Facebook, you know? Yeah. Yeah. Here we are two years later out on the road doing it. It's a pretty cool thing. It's Speaker 1 00:07:22 Crazy. Yeah. Like, you know, from, from premiering your music video on the site and you know, getting to see you play writers rounds in town and getting to like, actually hang with you, you know, once I moved to town. Speaker 2 00:07:31 Yeah. I mean, y'all were sharing my music, doing the articles on it, like at like whiskey Miss Me in 2018. Yeah. You know, pretty Speaker 1 00:07:38 Cool. Yeah. So it's great to see, you know, and, and when I got to town, it like, pretty much happened right after that. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. It's like, oh, this thing's happening, like right fucking now, you Speaker 2 00:07:47 Know? Yeah. It Speaker 1 00:07:47 Was insane. So. Yeah. It's super cool to just be able to Yeah. To like just get to see the first person kind of like blow up. Yeah. You know? Yeah. Speaker 2 00:07:56 Pretty wild. Speaker 1 00:07:57 How you doing Ben? Is that Chelsea? Speaker 2 00:07:59 Yeah. Sorry Speaker 1 00:07:59 Guys. Didn't realize we doing Oh, come on in. Yeah, come in. Can. Yeah, you're good. You sure? Yeah, you're in bro. Go pass. It's Speaker 2 00:08:05 The bus. Let me say hey to the fam. It's Speaker 1 00:08:07 The kids'. Oh my gosh. Speaker 2 00:08:08 Oh, is that a video? It's just a video. Oh. Speaker 1 00:08:10 Oh. Speaker 2 00:08:10 It's so cutes. Speaker 1 00:08:11 Ben's has two beautiful babies now. Ben Speaker 2 00:08:14 Missed his son's birthday to be on the road with us this weekend. We celebrated the today or Oh yeah. Speaker 1 00:08:19 Oh yeah. That's Speaker 2 00:08:19 True. So did Terry. Speaker 1 00:08:20 Yeah. Hey, you'll have that sometimes on the road. Speaker 2 00:08:22 Josh, about Terry's son. I switched today. Sent him the money for it. Vincent does switch. That's great. Yeah. I feel like Terry's kids is the closest I'm ever gonna come to like having kids. Any kids. Yeah. Unless it happens by Speaker 1 00:08:32 Accident. Unless you mess up around Speaker 2 00:08:33 Bad Hook. There's some girl in fucking New York. That's my kid. And she Speaker 1 00:08:38 Was a real nice lady though. <laugh>. Yeah, Speaker 2 00:08:40 Yeah, exactly. Speaker 1 00:08:42 <laugh>. Well dude, yeah. It's like, and so when I moved to town, that was like the first thing and then we did the first Maxwell and your birthday party. Yeah. And it was like, ended up being kinda like the dick out of Dallas party, you know? Speaker 2 00:08:54 Yeah. It was crazy. We were just gonna like do a, um, a writer's round for our birthdays. Yep. And then like we had Jay, like JB and Ella and I mean we had the whole crew there. And then next thing we turned around there's like Rusty Gasson and like all of Sony Cole Wedell Publishing was there. Cole Wedell was there, met him. Um, a big machine was there. Yep. It was crazy dude. It was just like, yeah. It was like a showcase for us. It was us and all our friends and then we all signed deals. So it Speaker 1 00:09:22 Was like, yeah. All everybody signed a pub deal after that <laugh>, Speaker 2 00:09:24 You know? Yeah, Speaker 1 00:09:24 Exactly. That was so neat though. Again, just kind of like that happens from time to time, but it doesn't happen that often. Yeah. So like, you catch that moment, you know, like imagine like Luke coming up a revival and like, you know, kind of like saw it like go from no one to everyone. Yeah. You know, that's like, I feel like that was the first moment since I'd moved to town that like I saw and it was you guys. Speaker 2 00:09:43 Yeah, dude, the other day I was in a bar and there was this like kid over in the bar that looked like, Luke's like a, you know how the Luke Luke Combs look is like, uh, it's a look now. Oh yeah. You Speaker 1 00:09:53 Know, black Columbia shirt. Yeah. Shitty beard like Speaker 2 00:09:55 Mine. And I can't remember who it was. We were sitting there at the table. I was like, imagine if that kid came up to you and was a nobody and was like, Hey man, I'd like to write songs with you sometime. And like, and you know, I mean, nine times outta 10 are gonna be like, who the fuck's this guy? Fuck no, I'm not writing with you. You know? But the people that did, you know, like imagine that like Big Rob. Yep. And, uh, Speaker 1 00:10:16 Channing Speaker 2 00:10:17 And Channing and, and you know, Speaker 1 00:10:19 Eric, Dylan, Speaker 2 00:10:19 All those guys, you know, that did Speaker 1 00:10:21 Rowdy Rob, you know, that was with him since. Speaker 2 00:10:23 So it's like you never know, you know? Yeah, Speaker 1 00:10:26 Dude. That's exactly how it is. It's like, that's why it shows you just be good to people. Exactly. You know? Exactly. Because you're exactly right. You don't know. It could be some kid that is not even a musician that's just like, kind of weird. Yeah. But he could be an executive at some company someday that is making decisions if you get shows or not <laugh>. That's Speaker 2 00:10:42 Right. Almost be good to people. Speaker 1 00:10:43 Yeah. That's, that's a hundred percent it. And it just feels better being good to people anyway. Yeah. If someone's shitty, it Speaker 2 00:10:49 Feels good to Dick. If I'm a dick it's cuz I'm like tired. But yeah. Usually when I'm, when I'm like super tired is go get my bunk and go to sleep and don't talk to anybody when it comes Showtime though, baby. It's home. Speaker 1 00:11:01 It's home baby. Yeah. Yeah. It's cool too cuz like, so the Slid and Ride show that you guys did in Martin, Tennessee before it was moved to Speaker 2 00:11:09 Wherever, 1400 people in February of 2020. Yeah. Just packed out or 2021. Like coming out of a pandemic. Yeah. That show was not supposed to happen. Speaker 1 00:11:18 No, no. But I'm so glad it did. Yeah. Because like, as a music fan, it like fed me for the first time in a long, Speaker 2 00:11:24 About a Speaker 1 00:11:24 Year. Like a year and a half. Yeah. You know, like, yeah. Fed me like what I'd been needing, you know, the dopamine I needed the Speaker 2 00:11:31 Best show was the New Year's show. Speaker 1 00:11:32 Oh that was great. Speaker 2 00:11:33 And, um, not wasn't the best show. I mean Martin was probably like top five for me still even to this day. Um, but the, the, the show in in New Year's. Yes. Cause the next day everybody had Covid. Yeah. <laugh> Speaker 1 00:11:46 <laugh>. I had just had it before so I was good. Speaker 2 00:11:49 But I woke up with, I woke up with like a slamming headache and like Oh, my manager and his wife and a bunch of our crew were like going to the hockey game. Yeah. And I went and I was just like, oh, miserable. And then three days later I was like, yeah, I got Covid. Speaker 1 00:12:02 What, uh, what do you guys got gun on for news? Just here. Speaker 2 00:12:05 I don't think we're playing. Yeah, I think we're off. I think our last shows are, um, the 22nd and 23rd ones in, uh, Midland, Texas. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> and one's in, um, uh, Tarell Texas. Speaker 1 00:12:16 We'll just have a house party and I'll make you just sing one Speaker 2 00:12:18 Song. Yeah. Remember the one party we had? I do Speaker 1 00:12:20 <laugh>. The floor was so dirty, it was New Year's. Me Speaker 2 00:12:23 And Ella haven't had a party since Speaker 1 00:12:25 Then. I wouldn't either man. I don't Disgusting. The floor was just mud. Yeah. I was like, people have to either stay outside or stay inside. Cuz this is not good. Speaker 2 00:12:33 <laugh>. Yeah. That was Speaker 1 00:12:33 Not good. There was a bunch of dogs that didn't matter that the dog Speaker 2 00:12:35 Fell asleep on my bed. Oh Speaker 1 00:12:37 Yeah. That sounds right. We were in your room, uh, we were in your room listening to music and then Speaker 2 00:12:42 Jail. Like just doing, passing the guitar around. Speaker 1 00:12:45 Yeah. And, and I was asleep. And you're like, Nick, get the fuck outta my bed. <laugh> uh, I blame that on Matt's St. Gummies though. Speaker 2 00:12:52 Oh yeah. Speaker 1 00:12:53 Yeah. Those things you could never get to right 'em out if you, you didn't, if you did like one or two, you weren't high at all if Speaker 2 00:12:59 You did. Like I had a dream last night I took weed gummies. Really? Speaker 1 00:13:02 Yeah. We Speaker 2 00:13:03 Didn't, it was weird. Weird. I know I did. Yeah. <laugh>, I woke up and I was like, thank God. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:13:06 <laugh>. Nah, you're good. We, uh, but those, when the Mat was sponsored by that Delta eight company Yeah. It was just like everyone was high off Delta eight all the Speaker 2 00:13:15 Time. <laugh>. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:13:16 He was just like, I just get 'em from the guy. That's my sponsorship deal, Speaker 2 00:13:19 You know? Yeah. What do you think about being on the road? Speaker 1 00:13:21 Man, I like it. It's super cool. Yeah. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:13:23 It's, you think you'll do another, uh, rowdy on the Road? I Speaker 1 00:13:26 Would definitely be down to, you know, it's, uh, it's cool. Like, because again, like you hang with people, but when you really like get to be around people, you get to see who they are a little more. Yeah. You know? Yeah. So I think it's cool to like get to experience and man these venues too. Yeah. Like, I've never been to any of these venues. Speaker 2 00:13:42 Yeah. But you've heard of 'em. Yeah. Cause we, cuz everybody Cody's Nashville plays 'em. Speaker 1 00:13:46 Yeah. Coyote Joes is a legendary venue. Yeah. You know, it's like when you talk about top 10 honky tonks in the country, it's on that list. Oh yeah. You know? For sure. So just getting to go there and just like see it and meet all the, the owners and the Yeah. You know, the staff who were just super nice. They're like, oh, you want another case of Miller Light? Yeah. We'll, just bringing one in here. Yeah. You know, <laugh> like, no problem. Yeah. And then I went up to the bar and she was like, you don't have your wristband. And I was like, oh, I'm like, with the band and she just gave me a Corona. Yeah. And I, I was gonna pay for it, you know, like, I didn't know that's how that went. Yeah. I was like, oh, damn. All right. <laugh>. Speaker 2 00:14:17 Yeah. Did you have on your, uh, your hundred Speaker 1 00:14:21 Percent the cardboard? Yeah. Ca Cardboardy has it now. Nice. My, uh, my classic Trey Lewis patch. Yeah. You know, the, uh, the og it says a hundred percent legit. I got that from our, our Good Canadian friend during CMA Fest. He made like a CMA Fest Alexis Pass, like that, that's opposite. And that's where I got the Speaker 2 00:14:36 Idea for America. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:14:37 For America. A hundred percent legit. Um, but let's talk about what you got in the tanks. So you just, uh, Speaker 2 00:14:43 Yeah, I just signed a, uh, a record deal over at Riverhouse. Speaker 1 00:14:47 Yeah. Yeah. Dude. Congrats Speaker 2 00:14:48 On that. Yeah, dude. Thanks man. I spent a long time coming. I knew, knew I'd eventually, um, do it. Yeah. Bite the bullet, so to say. Yeah. <laugh>. But, uh, you know, I mean, I've been meeting with Lynn Oliver for a while, uh, on and off for, you know, or just stayed in contact with her and we were out in, um, we're out in, uh, Colorado and she sent me a text and is like, Hey, I just sent you a request on, uh, what's the website where you like, you can do videos and get paid for 'em. Speaker 1 00:15:18 Oh, uh, Speaker 2 00:15:19 Uh, Speaker 1 00:15:20 No, it's, Speaker 2 00:15:21 You know what I'm talking about Speaker 1 00:15:22 Where you do the little clips videos? Speaker 2 00:15:24 Yeah. You can like paste celebrities to do videos. Oh, cameo. Speaker 1 00:15:28 Cameo. Speaker 2 00:15:28 Yeah. Cameo. She's like, I just sent you a cameo. I need you to do me a dig town in Dallas thing for like one of my friends. I was like, you don't have to pay me for that. And she was like, no, because I set my, I hate doing them. Yeah. So I set my price at like 300 bucks. Yeah. <laugh>, you know, it's like, if I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna get paid fat for it. Right. You know? Yeah. <laugh>. And, um, uh, she was like, uh, she was like, no, just do it. I was like, cool. I did it. She was like, what have you got going on? Because my plan was is in January to go and record a record and put a shit ton of my own money behind it mm-hmm. <affirmative> whether somebody was involved with it or not. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, I feel like it's time. Speaker 2 00:16:02 I feel like it's time to put out a record. You know, I would spend popping out singles. I think I popped out like nine or 10 singles this year. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, every six weeks. Yep. Um, so I wanted to put out a record and just like, I feel like my fans deserve to have that, you know, where they're not just getting one song, you know? Yep. Because you can only listen to one song for so long. Yeah. You know, I mean, people are still streaming this shit outta Dick down in Dallas and single again. But I'm just talking about the fans that like, actually like listen to like not just one song that like, I don't know, I like records. I always love records as a kid. Like, I don't know, there's something cool about back in the day getting a CD and like pulling it out and looking over in the cover, you know, and like who wrote the songs, lyrics, you know, I mean, they don't do that anymore, but Yeah. Um, but I might do like a short run of those, you know, just for the people that want or like me, you or Speaker 1 00:16:51 Do vinyl. Even Speaker 2 00:16:52 Vinyl. Yeah. Vinyl will be sick. Yeah. Um, so we're going in, we're gonna do like a large amount of songs. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> not like, you know, 10, but maybe like 20 or 30 then that's on the picture. Yeah, yeah. No, no. I mean, I'm gonna put out like 20 tracks. Big old album. Just a big old album. Hell Speaker 1 00:17:09 Yeah. Speaker 2 00:17:09 Love that. So I think, uh, we'll probably put a few of the songs that we put out this year on it that I feel like maybe didn't get the attention they deserved. Cool. You know? Yeah. And then, uh, hopefully y'all hear me on the radio one day. Let's Speaker 1 00:17:20 Go Speaker 2 00:17:21 <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:17:21 Yeah. I mean, it's, Hey, I played you on the radio. Speaker 2 00:17:23 Yeah, you did. That's right. Speaker 1 00:17:24 The edited dick down in Dallas. Yeah, Speaker 2 00:17:26 Dude. I mean, I think it's that song. It still does it. It does. Tom was like, my publisher at Sony was like, I don't know, I just still like this. Yeah. You know, it's like, it's, the melody's still good. Oh yeah. It's still upbeat. Well Speaker 1 00:17:37 That's, that's the thing about Dick down in Dallas was isn't just the stuff you say at it. It is a well-written country song. Yeah. It's, you know what I mean's A melody. Yeah. Sounds like a great melody. Yeah. Yeah. It sounds like you would hear sounds Speaker 2 00:17:48 Current. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:17:49 Yeah. It sounds current, but it also sounds like it could have been from like the nineties or two thousands, you know? Yeah, exactly. Has that beautiful key change in it, which I love <laugh>. Yeah. Everybody. Speaker 2 00:17:57 That thing was, uh, perfectly produced by Grady, Alex Grady, and great Alex, Alex. Yeah. I mean, and there was only three players on it, you know? Yeah. Speaker 1 00:18:05 That's how you do it though. Speaker 2 00:18:05 Uh, Grady played the drums and Saul played acoustics, uh, electrics and bass, and then Maxwell did all the piano and the s and all that stuff. So pretty, pretty magical. I mean, we did, we got it done in like two weeks. Yeah. You know, from mixing and mastering and all that. Speaker 1 00:18:22 That's, that's the crazy thing now is like with TikTok now if you put out a song, you almost have to have it done before you were teasing it, you know? Yeah. Speaker 2 00:18:29 Well that's why I went and recorded like 30 songs last year. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:18:33 <laugh>, why not, you know, have 'em in the tank. In the tank. Yeah. That's, that's it. It's like, it's one of those things. That's what, like Grady Smith with the Dick Down and Dallas thing thought you guys already had a record label. Speaker 2 00:18:42 Yeah. He thought we did. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:18:44 Cuz you got the market so quick and you had t-shirts and you had, you know, you, he just didn't realize, like you just had the team built already. Speaker 2 00:18:50 Yeah, I just had a team. I mean, there was a, there was a lot of stuff that we did that we didn't know what we, like we had never done it before and we didn't know what we were doing, but like, we just rolled with it and just went, went in guns blazing, you know. Speaker 1 00:19:03 Did you sell more merch that year? Online or in person? Speaker 2 00:19:07 In person, yeah. For sure. But my online sales were increased significantly. I mean, it was, you know, I mean, I used to sell like, probably, you know, 16 t-shirts in a year span. Yeah. You know, where it was like more like 16 a day or even more 30 a day. Speaker 1 00:19:22 Yeah. Dude, that's, yeah. That's a game changing thing. I think it's super funny. And I know you haven't been to Pittsburgh. We gotta talk to your booking agent. Speaker 2 00:19:29 T I haven't been to Pittsburgh with Oh, I went with Kid Rock. Speaker 1 00:19:31 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We need to get you to come to Speaker 2 00:19:33 J went to Maxwell's house and went to the, uh, went to the casino down there. Oh, the Rivers beautiful city, dude. You drive through that tunnel and then there's just a Speaker 1 00:19:42 City, the world opens. Awesome. That's how, that's where I like, I have a room stone, Pittsburgh. Yeah. And that's the tunnel I go through to get in the city every time, man. And it's just like when I'm gone for a little while, Speaker 2 00:19:51 I forget. Do you rent a room down there Speaker 1 00:19:53 Or what? Yeah, I have a buddy that has a house and I just pay him a little bit every month. That's just, that's cool. That's that way when I'm home, I'm not like crashing on my Yeah. Like, you know, high school Speaker 2 00:20:01 Bed and not being in a degenerate and hanging out around parents. Speaker 1 00:20:04 You know, I get to hang out with my friends. Speaker 2 00:20:05 They don't like you that much anymore. They Speaker 1 00:20:07 Love me, but they go to bed at five. Yeah. You know? Yeah. And then I'm like, all right, what am I gonna do? Go down to the town bar, the one bar We have a hard town that everybody goes to. Exactly That. I haven't, I don't know anyone at anymore. You know, <laugh>. Yeah. So I just, I have in Pittsburgh, uh, and it's basically like a storage shed. Yeah. Like I just have stuff there. Oh, nice. And then I had planned, like when I moved down that I thought I was gonna have to be back a bunch for work. Yeah. Cuz I had the old job then it's before I got my cool new job, you know, Speaker 2 00:20:32 Working for the record Speaker 1 00:20:33 Label. Hey man, I'm a suit now, but I'm a happy suit. <laugh>. Yeah dude. And I'm a suit that can dress like this, Speaker 2 00:20:38 You know? Dude, it's cool that like you just, and that's, it's just proof in the pudding that if you just move to town and make shit happen, then shit happens. Speaker 1 00:20:46 You, dude, it's funny too cuz like we had, we were chatting with them. I actually talked to them during Covid, you know? Yeah. All about everything. I had that radio show in Pittsburgh and uh, but when I got down here and we did that event, we did the Writer's Round takeover. Yeah. Come on through brother. Yeah. We did that Writer's Round Takeover. I think they were like, oh, okay. You know, like we kind of get it now. Yeah. You know, on paper it looks like one thing, but when you see the stuff in full force Speaker 2 00:21:09 And the hats, man, everybody wears Speaker 1 00:21:11 The hats. Yeah. We have a, we have a really good, the songwriters love our hats now. So one of the things we do is when someone plays Rowdy on the row, we'll give 'em a hat or a t-shirt for playing, you know? So we have Crown Head cigars. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:21:22 What's the first person to wear a hat? Uh, wear a raised rowdy tshirt. You Speaker 1 00:21:25 Sure? Where dude on a music video. Speaker 2 00:21:27 I like the new shirt y'all made. The Degens Speaker 1 00:21:29 Dejas. I got you one, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. They gave you one. Yeah. Yeah. That's great. Yeah. The Raz Rowdy Degens dude, that's, uh, we've been embracing the Dey recently. Yeah. We're like, that's like kind of what we are, you know, <laugh> Yeah. Like Whiskey jam is like nice clean cut. Yeah. We're like the trailer park degenerate, you know, Speaker 2 00:21:46 Bunch of bush lies. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:21:48 We just like to have a good time, but we're degenerate with the heart of gold, you know? Yeah, exactly. <laugh>, we're like that stripper. That's like a real nice lady, you know? Yeah. We're just like that. Nick Gorman. We Speaker 2 00:21:58 Love you. How you doing? Abby Speaker 1 00:22:00 <laugh>? We're gonna have you on later when you're high. Oh, Haley. Yeah. <laugh>. Yeah. We're both, both <laugh> or both Speaker 2 00:22:08 Carl stated, Speaker 1 00:22:10 But, uh, it's been crazy to say the least to be on the road. And it was funny too cuz like, Terry's broken. Yeah. So I was like, oh man, you know, and Mitch is like sober. Yeah. But last night they were partying. You don't have to, you don't have to be able to move good or to drink to party, you know, Speaker 2 00:22:25 Was partying too. Absolutely. Kiss three different girls. Yeah. At one point. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:22:29 They were real Speaker 2 00:22:30 Nice lady. Like in the same room. Speaker 1 00:22:31 Yeah. <laugh>, that's more wall and stuff right there. Yeah. <laugh>. Um, but dude, it's like, that's part of the thing, uh, this girl was at side stage and she was like, Hey, could you uh, introduce me to that drummer? And I was like, yeah, just wave at 'em. Yeah. And he, she waved at him and he's like, and I was like, yep. Yeah, I'll introduce you after <laugh>. I don't know if the hell out or not. Speaker 2 00:22:52 But it was funny. And this one girl came up to you and was like, I wanna meet Matt, the drummer. And then I showed him pictures. She was like, no, not that guy <laugh>. And I was like, well that's the drummer. So he wanted, Speaker 1 00:23:06 You must have drank too much honey <laugh>. But that room was super cool and it was like interesting cuz every crowd area is different, you know? Yeah, sure. So like, they were doing the like, the stepping before, but it's not like line dancing. It's like two stepping, I guess. Yeah. Where the girls just kinda like circle the dance floor stepping around. Yeah. I've never been to something like that before. Speaker 2 00:23:24 Oh dude, you gotta see it in Texas sometimes in Texas. Like you'll play in Texas and they like, they don't even come up in front of the stage like before the show. They're like all on the outside and people are dancing on the dance floor. Dancing around. Yeah. And then I get out there and I'm like, fuck that. I know this is Texas, but I'm from Alabama. Get your ass up here in front of the stage. <laugh>, we're gonna party. Yeah. But in the back it's like the people that maybe don't know what's really going on, they're just like two stepping and like Yeah. Speaker 1 00:23:50 Doing Speaker 2 00:23:50 Their thing. Yeah. Doing their thing. Speaker 1 00:23:51 It's nuts. I haven't been to Texas either. I need to get that. Speaker 2 00:23:53 Yeah, you'll have to go. Yeah. Yeah. If it wasn't so close to Christmas, I'd just tell you to get on the bus with us. Speaker 1 00:23:58 Oh yeah. My mom would kill me. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:24:00 She kidding. <laugh>, Speaker 1 00:24:01 I'm not gonna home for Thanksgiving. She would murder me dead. Speaker 2 00:24:03 Yeah. <laugh>. Yeah, exactly. Speaker 1 00:24:05 But man, it's uh, it's cool seeing you're working with, uh, you know, the folks that I've known for a long time. Yeah. And then getting to know you and then watching you now get the deal. Yeah. And then seeing what comes from that. Speaker 2 00:24:17 Man. That's pretty f it's pretty cool man. Speaker 1 00:24:19 It is man. And it's crazy too, like working at Big Loud, it's like you really get to see what a hundred people pointing in the same direction can do. Yeah. You know? Yeah. It's not, it's nuts to see like marketing a creative, you know, like everyone in meetings and then like everyone's pointing in the same direction. You can get a lot of shit done in a little period of time. Yeah. But that's cuz you got 20 people doing it. Yeah, exactly. Speaker 2 00:24:42 And a lot of, and 20 people that know what the fuck they're doing. Speaker 1 00:24:45 Exactly. They've done it 10 times wrong. So they know how to do it. Right. Speaker 2 00:24:48 Yeah, exactly. Speaker 1 00:24:49 Or they did it 10 times kind of wrong. Yeah. So they know how to do it. Right. Yeah. So that's what it's like. You don't have to have a label, but you have to have a group of people that are all put pointing in the same direction. Speaker 2 00:24:59 And I mean, big Louds crushing it. Dude. I don't know one artist over there that I'm not like, damn, I wish I had their team <laugh>. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:25:05 Yeah. Man, it's, well the owners of Big Loud have done a really, really good job of surrounding themselves with crazy talented people. Yeah. Like my boss Candace is just Insane Patch over there who's like the head of a and r, but he is like the, like the kind of like president now. He's like so smart man. Yeah. His brain, the way his brain works is not the same as mine. I say that same thing about Seth Speaker 2 00:25:29 The other day. I looked up, um, what's the guy's name? The writer over there? The big writer. Which Speaker 1 00:25:35 One? Craig Speaker 2 00:25:36 Wiseman. Craig Wiseman. Yeah. I looked up his song list the other day. Yeah. Oh dude. So many songs for like decades now. Yeah. That were huge hits. Current Speaker 1 00:25:44 Hits back to like hits from years Speaker 2 00:25:47 Ago. Yeah. No, I know. It's crazy. Like, he wrote songs that even like, were not like huge radio hits, but like huge like Texas Country hits and like dude, he's just like a jack of Speaker 1 00:25:56 All traits and he's a big personality man. Yeah. He is what has become Big Live. That's from him, you Speaker 2 00:26:03 Know. Yeah. He was, uh, when we all went down to Key West, he was on that flight. Yeah. And he was like, I was like, damn. Yeah. He was like first class. He's like, nobody talked to me. You know, just had that look on his face. Yeah. You know, Speaker 1 00:26:13 Dude, he's great. He's been, I mean, I haven't got to chat with him too, too much, but super awesome guy. Always su so nice to everyone just takes those writers under his wing and just like, makes it happen. Like, loves the Block Boys and like all the gang over there that they got, you know? Speaker 2 00:26:28 Yeah. They all got you got great writers over there too. Speaker 1 00:26:30 And then of course Earn, you know, he was kind of a writer before he was, he was doing the artist thing, but like in different kind of genres. Yeah. So he was kind of a writer before he was an artist, you know, and Yeah. Came up that way. And then look at, look, Ben Burgess dude. Yeah. 37 and he's, he's getting his first art artist album. Yeah. Yeah. But it's, it's neat cuz they, he has the songs. Ben's been writing songs Speaker 2 00:26:49 For other people. I mean, I know. Like, I don't know, I just feel like, and when you live in Nashville it's like you already know who's gonna be big before the rest of the world does mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know. But like, if I look at like, where Hardy was, I guess it was like a year and a half ago we played some like arena with him in Mississippi mm-hmm. <affirmative> and then like, um, I think a rock was already out, but it was like still fresh, you know? Um, cuz that came out like during the Pandemic, right? Yeah, Speaker 1 00:27:16 Yeah, yeah. And it was like, like Boots came out during like when you couldn't go outside. Yeah. Like, which was like one of the lead in singles, you know? Exactly. Speaker 2 00:27:25 Yeah. But like from where he is to now, like insane. I just know that like people for a long time are gonna be trying to do what Hardy's doing. Yeah. And nobody's gonna be able to match that. Yeah. I mean, he's a badass rider. Yep. His live show's insane. Yep. And his music, Speaker 1 00:27:41 Joey boy is producing Speaker 2 00:27:42 It. Yeah. His mu Yeah, exactly. <laugh>, his music's like nothing you've ever heard. Yeah. You know, and he already has the ability to like write songs in a way that like and say some of the thing, same things that have been already been said in country music just differently. Yeah. And it's all like, you know what I mean? Yeah. It's all like, just like high energy, you know? It's none of it's like, I think maybe the like slowest song he has that I've heard today is like, uh, sign Over Speaker 1 00:28:12 You. Which is an amazing Speaker 2 00:28:13 Song. Which is amazing song. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:28:15 Yeah. When he drops, Speaker 2 00:28:16 You know, a song I Wish would go to radio. What's that? It's, uh, the song with him and Hardy. I went to a bar. What's Speaker 1 00:28:22 Morgan? Yeah, he went to Jared. Yeah. Dude. A lot. That's a lot of people had said that. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:28:25 Yeah. I just feel like it's such a Speaker 1 00:28:27 Smash. Oh, it's so good. That's the most stream song I've Hicks tape. Yeah. Um, and it's, yeah, it's just a classic. Yeah. The first line I got, I, I still got a toolbox, a shoebox full of money sitting at the top of my clouds, man. See it. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm like, what? Yeah. Yeah. But it's perfect from working like a dog. Yeah. <laugh>. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:28:46 But dude, I just, I just feel like, you know, if I like turned in a song like that to my bullshit, they'd be like, what the fuck is this? Yeah. You know what I mean? It only works cuz it's him. Speaker 1 00:28:55 Well, they probably were like that to him when he wrote it and then three years later when they cut it, they're like, you're a genius. Yeah. You know? Exactly. Speaker 2 00:29:01 That's how, I mean, that's how the, that's how Nashville works. Speaker 1 00:29:03 That's how it always goes. Yeah. Yeah. No one wants you to tell, everybody wants you, you know, that's how it always is. But yeah, man, it's, it's, Speaker 2 00:29:10 But I mean, how cool would it be, you know, like Aaron and Morgan Wallen had the number one. Really? Yeah. And it would be, should be cool if him and Hardy Yeah. Speaker 1 00:29:17 Had one. Yeah. Man. Uh, flower shops didn't go number one. Speaker 2 00:29:20 It didn't No, Speaker 1 00:29:21 It did. It went up there. I don't think it went number one. It could be wrong, but I don't think it did. Shooter. Yeah. Damn. Speaker 2 00:29:26 Should have, sometimes songs are too good to go. Number one. Speaker 1 00:29:28 Dude, that song is Speaker 2 00:29:29 Classic country homeboy didn go number Speaker 1 00:29:30 One. Yeah. Classic country music, gold. Speaker 2 00:29:32 You know, I had Tracy Lawrence on my podcast. Yeah. And, um, paint Me at Birmingham didn't go number one Speaker 1 00:29:38 Insane. One of the finest country songs of all time. Yeah. Yeah. That's the song you think about when you think of him, you know? Yeah. Yeah. It wasn't one of his number ones. Yeah. He had a bunch of number ones. Yeah. That just wasn't Speaker 2 00:29:47 One of them. He had 18. Yeah. That just wasn't one of 'em. I thought it was 13. He had to correct me. I was like, damn. Speaker 1 00:29:51 He's like, damn. All right. Yeah. Yeah. <laugh>. Um, well, yeah, let's talk about your podcast. So I've I was on there. Yeah. Yeah. Um, but that's a, a kind of newer thing. When did you guys officially start at, Speaker 2 00:30:02 Um, you know, ley? It Speaker 1 00:30:04 Was back in, Speaker 2 00:30:05 It was, it's been a year because our lease just, uh, came up. Came up for our Yeah. Yeah. It's been a year. We've done 22 episodes now. Yeah. I think, uh, I think we still got three to come out. Nice. But yeah, I mean, we just film it every other Tuesday, I mean, every other Monday and, uh, or we put one out every other Monday. Yeah. Sometimes it, you know, d differentiates, but, uh, man, I'm having fun with it. It's a blast, you know? Yeah. Studios for great. I haven't seen like a ton of growth yet, but like, I think we're just like, it's just like, you know, just like my, like, you know, music career, it's about just never giving up and keep doing it. And as long as I'm having fun with it, it's cool. You know, that's the key man. It's like, and it just diversifies the kind of content we put out mm-hmm. <affirmative>. So it's not always like a show poster, you know? Yep. Here's a, you know, and I feel like it gives the fans an opportunity to feel like they're hanging out with us a hundred percent. You know what I mean? I agree with that. And people come to the shows and they talk about it, you know, we'll have this one guy walk up to Brill one night and he is like, gonna be a hell of a critter crawl tonight, Speaker 1 00:31:05 <laugh>, you Speaker 2 00:31:05 Know? Yeah. Um, but it's cool. Cool man. I think, you know, we got the guys over at Q six doing the, you know, the editing and everything and it's, uh, Speaker 1 00:31:13 We don't hate them at least. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:31:15 You know? Yeah. <laugh>. Yeah. We've had O'Malley out on the road with us this week. He's crushing it. Speaker 1 00:31:19 He's degenerate, but not as quite as good as the band. Yeah. You know? Yeah. You'll get there, you'll get there Speaker 2 00:31:25 <laugh>. Yeah. I mean, if we, he comes out on the road with us, we'll ruin him. But, you know, <laugh>, he won't have a girlfriend much longer, but Yeah. Yeah. <laugh> Speaker 1 00:31:31 Critter, critter critter. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:31:33 But, uh, you know, if we just bring him out every month, he'll be all right. Yeah. Yeah. Um, Speaker 1 00:31:37 He'll, he'll get his, Speaker 2 00:31:38 I really do enjoy it. I love, you know, the other day we had Fair, and Rachel's on and I love Faren, you know, me and her kind of, me and her and like her friend group kind of got off to a rough start when I first moved to town and Yeah, you'll have that. Um, but we're all cool now, you know? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, but it was really cool to like, you know, a lot of times in Nashville you don't get a chance to like just sit down with people and like really let them get to know you, you know? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, you just kind of see 'em in passing, are you Right with him? You know? And you're always doing something. So it was cool to actually sit down with her because I'm a fan of Fair and Rachel, she's Speaker 1 00:32:09 Fucking Speaker 2 00:32:09 Great. Like, like I've been a long time fan. Like, I saw her at Zydeco in Birmingham. She played like an after party for Luke Combs, like, like when Uber Driver was like her, you know, that song, her song, you know. And then, um, and to, to just watch her like fr up from afar, like Grow as a songwriter, it was like, was like really cool to me, you know? And like, you know, she got out of her management deal or whatever and then she put out Smoke, you know, I think Smoke was like the last song she put out before her deal was up or whatever. Yeah. And I was like, wow, this is like, this is, this is, this is Speaker 1 00:32:44 Heartfelt. Awesome. Her voice sounds great on it. Yeah. Yeah. Production's amazing. Speaker 2 00:32:48 And then, you know, all the new stuff she's putting out, you know, the song she put out about her dad and all had had to be there. I think that's the name of it. And, uh, somebody's gotta do it and all that stuff. So, I don't know, it's just cool to actually sit down and have a conversa conversation with her and Yeah. I know she's gonna do good things and she's gonna, you know, keep going and, you know, and then to have somebody like Ella, it's like my little fucking sister, you know? Yep. And she just killing it right now. She just signed her deal and like, you know, she just put out Country Boy's Dream Girl. I Speaker 1 00:33:16 Love that Speaker 2 00:33:16 Song, but like, it's like her song if you have to, you know, I remember she sent me the work tape and I was like driving back and forth to Music Row every day to go write songs and just listening to that on repeat and just texting her being like, I'm tailing you. You gotta put this on TikTok <laugh>, Speaker 1 00:33:31 You know? And it, and she did. And then Speaker 2 00:33:33 Yeah, she put it on, it got like 3 million views the first day and now it has like, has over like 10 million streams and you know, that song's like the song that kind of blew up and got things like really started for her. And you know, she's been out with Randy and, you know, a bunch of other co and everybody, you know, and it's just like everybody that meets Ella like wants to hang out with her. Yeah. She's, she's great at, she's cool. Unless you're a fucking bitch, you know what I mean? Yeah. She's like, unless you're like jealous. Yes. Other than that, like, Speaker 1 00:34:00 Cuz she's like one of the boys. Yeah. But she's also like girl enough that she can hang with the girls. Exactly. You know? Exactly. Yeah. She's a great hang. She's Speaker 2 00:34:07 Just cool. Speaker 1 00:34:07 But, and she honestly like, acts older than her age, you know what I mean? She doesn't act like a kid. Yeah. You know, she's, how old is Ella? 24. Speaker 2 00:34:14 Um, Ella's 24. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So it's, it, the podcast is fun, man. It's just sometimes it's weird like trying to get a guest on there, you know? Yes. I'm sure you know how it's Oh yeah. That's like all you can do is just ask, you Speaker 1 00:34:25 Know? Yeah. Lining up times and like, uh, sending them the clips of what it looks like, you know what I mean? It's like, it's Speaker 2 00:34:31 All is there like, oh, is this podcast gonna be like shitty?
