Speaker 0 00:00:04 It's just everything, just right. It's called Ra
Speaker 1 00:00:26 Matt. Dude, what's up man? Welcome to the Razor Ready Podcast,
Speaker 2 00:00:29 Y'all. I'm so happy to be here, man. Turns out we're neighbors. I just figured that out. Welcome.
Speaker 3 00:00:34 I hope you like cigars and listening to live music, cuz that's what we do here if we're too close.
Speaker 2 00:00:39 Absolutely. Yeah. <laugh>, who doesn't like that?
Speaker 3 00:00:41 Do we need to move that mic up for you?
Speaker 2 00:00:43 No, I think I'm all right. Good. All right, cool. I think I get
Speaker 1 00:00:45 It. Would you have breakdown on the way over here or what?
Speaker 2 00:00:48 No. Well, I have a buddy, uh, my buddy Joe's getting his truck like leveled out and get some tires on it and stuff. So I have a spare spare truck in my driveway. Then, uh, yeah, I needed a battery so he could drive it around for a week. So, you know, I'm just doing, doing my thing for my guys. Hell yeah.
Speaker 3 00:01:06 That's what friendship's about right there.
Speaker 1 00:01:08 Absolutely it is. I never thought I'd be like one of those people that just have like, garbage in their yard, you know, like when you see people that are like super red and it's like a broken, like Winnebago or whatever in their driveway. But I've had a Jeep Cherokee in my yard for like three years now that just hasn't moved. <laugh>. I, it sneaks up on you, man. So now I have like a lot more patience for people like that. Hey
Speaker 2 00:01:29 Man, I swore that I was like, I washed my dad, you know, a mass, like vehicles that would at various points crank or not crank. And I said, you know, I'll be damned if I'll do that. You know, I'll have one to drive, one to have fun and whatever. And at my house right now there's, there's my one truck and then as of like earlier today, two trucks in a motorcycle that won't crank. Yeah. <laugh> really? You know, it's like, it's just history repeating itself. But we got one of 'em fired up at least today.
Speaker 1 00:02:00 The, um, once you get a boat out there that's like the next level.
Speaker 2 00:02:03 Absolutely.
Speaker 1 00:02:04 You just have like some, and it's just like not even covered and it's like covered in moss.
Speaker 2 00:02:07 I want like a boat that's not even trailered. Yeah. Just laying in the yard. <laugh>.
Speaker 3 00:02:12 That's where we should do the podcast. Yeah, we
Speaker 2 00:02:15 Should have
Speaker 1 00:02:15 A dude. That would be awesome actually. That would be super cool. Yeah. Like in inside like the cabin of a boat. Well then Matt
Speaker 3 00:02:21 Wouldn't outside fit
Speaker 2 00:02:21 Though. Well we had to be a big ass boat. Yeah. Yeah. Could do that.
Speaker 3 00:02:25 Maybe like a houseboat or something, I don't know. Oh
Speaker 2 00:02:27 Yeah. How
Speaker 3 00:02:28 Do we get here?
Speaker 1 00:02:29 I don't know. Um,
Speaker 3 00:02:30 I'm happy we're here though,
Speaker 1 00:02:31 <laugh>. Yeah. If anyone has a a boat they want to host us, please let me know. I'm always, yeah. We
Speaker 3 00:02:35 Need air conditioning in it. I'll tell you
Speaker 2 00:02:36 What we need is boats and hosts.
Speaker 3 00:02:38 Boats and hosts. I love
Speaker 1 00:02:40 That guy. Okay. That's a high deal. Write that down. <laugh>. Right. Boats and hosts. Dude. <laugh>.
Speaker 3 00:02:45 Well man, thanks for, uh, being on the pod. It's been a while since I, uh, got to see you. Absolutely, man. Um, I think the last time I saw you, like in person was up at like, jus Yeah. You and Bandy.
Speaker 2 00:02:55 Yeah, dude up there in, uh, just outside of Pittsburgh, man. Yeah, dude, I love it up, up there. Absolutely.
Speaker 3 00:03:01 I remember like making you do a liner for a radio show and, uh, I was like, Hey, will you do this liner? You're like, yeah, dude. Of course.
Speaker 2 00:03:07 Absolutely. <laugh>. What animal is your radio station named after? Like, it's usually my question. Yeah, <laugh>. Cause it's like you're listening to 1 0 7 1 the wool for the coyote or the frog or the bull. The trash pan or the cat. Oh, yeah, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 00:03:20 Ours would be a raccoon for sure. For
Speaker 2 00:03:21 Sure. Definitely, definitely. Oh,
Speaker 3 00:03:23 The raccoon Kurt has this shirt on that has PBA on it, but like, we are not legally licensed to sell Puma t-shirts. Of course. Yeah. So we only made 50 of them and now they're all gone. Hey, can't get a season's assist if you're not selling 'em anymore. Ex
Speaker 2 00:03:36 <laugh>, if, if you cease and desist <laugh> jokes on y'all. We already ceased it and Desisted
Speaker 3 00:03:42 We desisted, but man, yeah, it's been, it's been a while and, uh, you're just as tall as you were when I remember you last man <laugh>. We were, we we were like lining up the camera. We're like, all right. Yeah. But like, Matt's way taller than me, so we need to like, fix this. True.
Speaker 2 00:03:56 I'm, I'm pretty good at like, sizing that lens up and like slouching to the point the way, especially when I'm sitting down exactly when I'm standing up, it's like, it's just sucks. But when I'm sitting down, I can get him framed pretty easy. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:04:08 Well, you're doing good. We appreciate you. I'm sorry that the doors aren't quite big enough for you to walk through correctly, but
Speaker 2 00:04:13 Hey, that's all right. That's all right. <laugh>.
Speaker 3 00:04:16 Oh, man. It's, uh, it's, like I said, it's been a while, but, um, I, when we had the radio show, Kurt was my co-host up in Y 1 0 8 for Rays Rowdy Radio mm-hmm. <affirmative> and we, uh, we played some of your songs up there, which was great. Yeah, man. Um, the first number one Yeah. Which was, uh, prayed for You.
Speaker 2 00:04:32 It was, man. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:04:34 It's, uh, man, I know that song meant a lot to a lot of people and that's a, a super cool thing to get to be like, you know, a wedding song for folks and things like that.
Speaker 2 00:04:43 Absolutely, man. You know, I, I wanted to make, I think anybody that gets in there, I just wanna make music that people gave a shit about. Yeah. It's a podcast, right? Yeah. I can say shit. Absolutely. Yeah. That, that people gave a shit about. And you know, that song changed my life in so many ways. I'm so proud of writing it. I'm so proud that it matters to people and it still matters to people. Um, when I moved to town, I moved to town to be a songwriter and I thought when I wrote that song, I thought I was writing it for like someone else, you know, I thought I was writing it for, for, you know, some big artist to cut and, uh, you know, we put it out, my, my, my publisher at the time, you know, put, put that, uh, an EP out with that song on it and it changed my life, you know?
Speaker 2 00:05:23 So I didn't really like, expect to be the prayed for you guy or the wedding song, cuz I like, that's not, that's not a like a life that I've lived. Now I've seen it, I've seen it happen, but I mean, like, to be honest, you know, that song is, is really what kind of was the biggest straw in the Campbell's back of like ending my relationship. So it was like very weird. Um, yeah, very ironic. Yeah, very ironic that way. Um, but I never like thought that I would be the guy that made you know that that was the music I was gonna make that matter to people. And um, so it's been interesting to like, navigate that a little bit of, cuz I'm still one of these people where people probably know the song before they know who sings it. Like, oh yeah, that, oh, you're who sing, you know, it's not like Luke or something where it's like, oh, a new Luke comb song, let's go check it out.
Speaker 2 00:06:11 It's like, oh, the, this song who, who sings it? And so me getting to what I do, you know, pray for you isn't exactly what I do. You know? Right. Like, it's, it's not the music that I, that I make for myself now that I didn't think it was. And so like navigating that, being the gal on the radio as opposed to the guy in, you know, behind the wheel of a van and trailer, um, has been different and fun and trying to figure out how to be real and do that. It's taken some, um, time, but, uh, but I figured it out I think. And so, uh, now finally I've figured it out. So, um, yeah man, it was a great place to start and, um, you know, now I've got, I'm looking forward to the next journey. No doubt.
Speaker 1 00:06:53 Yeah. What do you have in the pipeline music wise?
Speaker 2 00:06:56 Man, I've got a bunch of stuff in the pipeline. Like I've, I've got, um, you know, as I mentioned, like the music that, that I wanted to make for myself, you know, when you, when you f when you have some success and, and you, you know, get in the music business to obviously do that and you're on the radio and then you can tour and blah, blah, blah, you know, that is, that's like the first goal. And then there's, but then there's this other pressure to like, keep it going and then it's like the, the, the kid that wanted to make music in the first place that was learning guitar in his dorm room that knew what he liked and maybe wasn't very good at it, but, you know, writing it, but knew what he liked and knew what he wanted to do gets clouded by some other things. And, um, like now I, that is the person that I am, that's the guy that's writing these songs. Yeah. Is, is is the guy that, that, uh, you know, traded, traded a lot of stuff to, uh, to get to do this. So that's who I listen to in my head and I'm, you know, nobody on my team. Like, everybody is on board with that and that's, that's a big new thing. And, and that's what got me so excited. Right
Speaker 1 00:08:01 On. Weren't you like on the brink of going to Harvard
Speaker 2 00:08:04 <laugh>? Yeah. I mean, like, I love it. Well, no, like, here's the thing, like yes and no. So, you know, when I was in, I started playing music in college. Yeah,
Speaker 1 00:08:17 I was gonna say, you mentioned Door Room. I'm like, I've been playing guitar since I was like a kid.
Speaker 2 00:08:21 That's why you're good at it. Like, I'm not like good at it. Right. I don't have
Speaker 1 00:08:24 Any number one songs, so, but that's fine.
Speaker 2 00:08:26 <laugh>. Yeah. I, I just punched the sound hole, like I don't, you know, <laugh>. Um, but, so I started playing in college and writing songs. That's really what I wanted to do. And so I got, I got the opportunity to go to grad school, you know, when I got done. Um, and I did, I went to Arkansas and got my masters. Um, and then I, then I traveled all around everywhere, you know, I got my van and trailer and tried to do my thing, my Texas country thing, you know, and that, that's the music I fell in love with originally when I finally moved to Nashville. You know, I'd had written some, sing some songs that went, you know, number one in Texas with, um, Casey Donahue. And yeah. He was all, you know, good to me. His wife managed me for a little while.
Speaker 2 00:09:05 They were great. Um, but I finally moved to Nashville, um, cuz I wanted to chase songs and I was here for a couple years trying to get a publishing deal, you know, trying to just write songs for a living. And I thought I was gonna do that and then keep my little, my band and make my little records. You know, I wanted to be like one of those guys, you know, I wanted to be like, um, like Will Ho or like, uh, will Travis Meadows or something. Yeah. Travis Meadows. Great. Like any, any of those dudes, Darryl Scott. Like that's what I wanted. You know, I flatter myself by saying I wanted to be these, you know, badasses You're heroes. Yeah. My heroes. But that's what I had in mind, you know, I wanted to do like, uh, Jaren Johnson, you know, Cadillac three, I love Jar.
Speaker 2 00:09:42 Exactly. That's what I had in my head. So I moved to town to do it was here for a couple years and, you know, I got offered this like, bullshit published deal by a publishing company that's not even around anymore. And then they, even the pub even and I was like, well, could you do that? And whatever they, they couldn't, so they ended up didn't offer it. And so I was like, okay, well at that time I went on this like medical missions trip to Haiti and worked alongside these doctors. And like, it wasn't really like, it wasn't a, I mean, it was through a church, but it was not a churchy thing. It was like mm-hmm. <affirmative> these people, their time to help anybody that needs it, regardless of, you know, what, not trying to preach to anybody and, but whatever. It was a great trip and I was like, holy shit man.
Speaker 2 00:10:26 These, these doctors just go into these places and can improve people's lives and give their time. And I was like, there's, how is there something more worthwhile than that to do? And um, so I got back home and I researched, I knew that, I knew that, uh, medical schools really liked for people to have a background in the humanities because a lot of times when, you know, these doctors are getting like, to go to med school, these people are like physics and biology majors, and sometimes the people that are really good at physics and biology tests are not so good at like, talking to human people. Right. You know, and so they want you, they want people like, you know, that have background and like, you know what, I had a background in, well go through radio tour first <laugh> doctor. Yeah. Right, right. Exactly.
Speaker 2 00:11:10 And so, you know, I had, so I had my master's and so they had this program that was like, for people that had degrees to get their classes in order to apply to med school. And Harvard had this program through their extension school. You get it, you've got this Harvard pre-med certificate, get you in, you know, look kind of a leg up into, you know, Harvard's medical school and you know, everywhere else. And I applied to that program and got in and I don't know why I got in the, the lady was just like, the admissions lady was just hungover that day and <laugh>, maybe she's from Arkansas or something. Probably. It's probably, she was like, oh, sick, cool. And uh, man, I was like six weeks, eight weeks of leaving Nashville. I mean, I was looking at apartments in, um, up, up in the northeast and, and yeah, I got the opportunity to, uh, somebody offered me a pub deal and, um, like right
Speaker 3 00:11:57 Before you were about to
Speaker 2 00:11:58 Leave at six Right. Literally, you know, six weeks. So I called the, the admissions office and the guy I was talking to, I was like, Hey, is there any way I could defer this? Like, I'm really glad I got in, but I got this opportunity. And they were like, yeah, cool. So that deferred it a year. And I was like, okay, I'll give it a year, see how it goes. And, um, it, it works here. Yeah. You know, the song thing kind of worked and so I had, it didn't go back, but I would've, like, I would have failed out of that school <laugh>. Like, I, there, I don't think that I'm, I, I don't know, like I would've had a hard time, you know, I, who knows, but I probably would've just, it sounds a whole lot better since they got accepted instead of like, went and didn't succeed. But, um, yeah, that, that's that story.
Speaker 3 00:12:41 Crazy man being that close from not doing music, man. It's
Speaker 2 00:12:44 Wild. Yeah, dude. I mean, I knew it was always gonna be a passion, you know, I knew, I knew I'd always probably play and I knew, you know, I would probably be the guy in the, in the, I mean, you know, in the bars, in the corner playing, playing whatever, writing my songs mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And I would just have, it's just been like my side thing and my, my hobby and my labor of love. But yeah, I thought, man, okay, well maybe I don't get the opportunity to do this. And, um, man, I, shit, I just got lucky and, you know, I had the right person and then some things hit and I mean, here we are. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:13:15 They call it luck, but it's not really luck. It's hard work, man. So
Speaker 2 00:13:18 It's a lot of hard work and it's a lot of like, it's a lot of believing in yourself. Sometimes. I wish I would've, I would've been a little more, um, like when I look back at the things that I regret, it's like the times that I didn't bet on myself hard enough or I didn't believe in myself enough, or I didn't like, I was, I was scared to fail. Like, you know, I, I have noticed that about myself is that, you know, up until, well, even still, man, I, you know, I, I fight a fear of failure, man. I don't want to be a failure and no one does. No, but dude, like, you know, that's just, that's a recipe for like mediocrity and at least for me, you know, it is. And so, yeah. You know, that was just kind of a believe in yourself kind of thing. Bet on yourself and
Speaker 3 00:14:02 Man,
Speaker 2 00:14:02 Rock
Speaker 3 00:14:03 Can roll. I think that's a big part of it too. It's like art is so like subjective. Yeah. But part of that is like, sometimes when you're in your biggest struggles, the best art comes out of it,
Speaker 2 00:14:12 You know? Oh, 1000%, man. Like the best the, that's, I mean, for me it's gotta be true across the board, but like, I, like I was talking about manager, like I love my movies happy and my songs sad. Yeah. Like, that's, that's what I like. Yeah. And I don't know why that is, but, um, you know, there's exceptions and everything, but the best music to me, you know, comes outta like heavy stuff. Like, you know, those kind of struggles, obviously relationship struggles. Yeah. Like, I found out <laugh>, I found out at the ACMs that my like, you know, my ex like that that the, the one who is a great person and we're, you know, friendly, but, um, I found out she's getting married like in like next weekend. Yeah. You know, at that. And it's like, even still, you know, it's been like three years since that was a relationship and it's, and, but I, I still get songs out of it and I still, like, like today, I said, and we, we wrote a song that is like, you know, kind of about that. And I've gotten the best, you know, what I consider my best songs, uh, from that kind of stuff. For sure. For sure.
Speaker 3 00:15:16 It's like, life is a struggle man, and it's a rollercoaster. It's ups and downs, you know, but like, that's what makes it worth the journey, you know? Absolutely,
Speaker 2 00:15:25 Man. I mean, you know, you can, you know, I think about, you know, songwriting being such an outlet for that kind of stuff because it, I mean, it, it is a silver lining of any kind of, like, any kind of like, bad stuff that happens. Like when my dad passed away, you know, a silver lining to it was, I knew I could, you know, was going to get to write a song that I'd be proud of. So I knew, you know, I didn't pick up a pen. It took me probably a year, a year and a half to, to, to write about it. But, you know, I've got a song that I'm really proud of and it's like, it's, you know, this is a silver lining. Same thing from those relationships. Same thing from like, when, when people, uh, you know, didn't believe in me from back home. And when people didn't believe that in me for all these record labels and then for, you know, all that shit, man. Oh, it's just fuel to the fire. Like, and that's the, that is definitely like the silver lining. Like, well that happened, but hell at least I'm gonna get a song about it. Hope you know. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:16:21 Hell yeah. Man, I feel like I can run through a fucking wall right now. You know what I mean? This is pretty inspiring
Speaker 3 00:16:25 Shit, man. I think that's, that's a part of it is like, it's the, the roller coaster's gonna go up and it's gonna go down. But the key is when it's at the down, how fast can you make it go up? And how much do you want it to go up
Speaker 2 00:16:37 1000% man, and just hanging there. For
Speaker 1 00:16:39 Sure.
Speaker 3 00:16:40 I love that. Oh,
Speaker 2 00:16:40 A hundred percent. It's
Speaker 1 00:16:42 Wild. What kind of get songs cut, you know, it's not, there's no rule or secret method, you know, it's like that that song spoke to you specifically.
Speaker 2 00:16:51 Yeah, man. And you know, I think it's good that, that it's that way cuz if there was like a rule or whatever, then, you know, if we had it figured out, it would be, you know, boring. Boring. Yeah. You know, so it's like new stuff all the time. And, and I have, you know, you know, you mentioned earlier like when I'm making music or when I'm cutting music, um, I have a real indie ear, you know, what I listen to, you know, I feel like I can, I can write down the middle, but a lot of times what I like is, is kind of out there. And, um, you know, that's been seen as a, there's been some people that have seen that as a liability when it comes to me and how do we get him back a little more, you know, whatever. But, uh, I'm done with those days, you know, like, I'm gonna, I'm gonna do different weird indie shit. I'm gonna cut things I think are cool and I'm really not going to take, uh, any shit about it. Like, you know, I appreciate the people that I, I value their opinion and I'm not bullheaded, but I'm, again, I'm like, I'm that, that kid that was learning how to play Curtis Lowe in front of his computer, uh, with a guitar, you know, with a, with a owner guitar, owner guitar, uh, in college. That's who, that's who's running this shit now, you know? Yes. So, love
Speaker 3 00:18:02 That man. I love that too. I think that's super important. It's like, to be a star in the country music world, you have to be pretty alpha. Right. And what I mean by that is like, you have to know what you want to do, you know? Yeah. And you have to be willing to drive your own boat.
Speaker 2 00:18:16 Well, yeah. And I, and that's, that's probably true. That's true for me. Like I, I know that I've, I've, um, and, and again, a lot of it is also like well-intentioned stuff, you know, when you get to a to a point, like, you know, when you've got, when I've got a payroll, right? Mm-hmm. <affirmative> when I've got eight people that I pay directly, and then I've got all these other people who take a cut of what I do, whose livelihoods are tied to mine. That's a different kind of pressure that, that I didn't. Yeah. And then it seems like, it seems like that pressure of doing cool stuff is like childish when you have people that have dedicated their lives to playing guitar and bass and drums, and you wanna put as many dates on the calendar as you can for these people. Now, they're not saying this to me, I'm just pressure, I'm putting on myself.
Speaker 2 00:19:04 You know, like, um, that that gets in the way. And that's not like a conversation that's ever had. Like, Hey, if you ever do hit lick, watch out for, you know, and, uh, and it's a noble thing. And, and when these people want things to work on the radio, they're like, oh, you know, the, the, the pray for you God needs to do, pray for you stuff. That's what they know. Yes. They're like, oh, are you sure? It's like, okay, well maybe this is what every, every, you know, this is what you have to go through and whatever. And, um, maybe it is for some people, but I've tried it that way. And even, even having, you know, a little success that way is not the, is not the reason I didn't do this to make money. You know, I did it because my heroes were bad asses and nothing makes you feel the way your favorite songs do. And that's what I wanna do. You know, like, and so that's what I'm gonna do. I don't know, I keep, I answered a bunch of questions with the same answer, but it's like,
Speaker 1 00:19:55 I think like being true to yourself is what fans like too. Yeah. You know what I mean? Especially
Speaker 3 00:20:00 In country music,
Speaker 1 00:20:01 Music listeners, they're not stupid, you know? And they're gonna know if something's genuine or not.
Speaker 2 00:20:06 They definitely can tell for me when it is or not. And, you know, I think, you know, I think the alpha thing, it, it doesn't have to be like this like stereotypical,
Speaker 1 00:20:14 Stereotypical
Speaker 2 00:20:15 Like, you know, dickhead saying, no, it's not, it's not. It's more of like a security with your yourself and being comfortable saying, I know who I am, I know what I like. And at this point, the third piece of it to me, for me is like, and I've put in the time to be able to do it. Yeah. And I'm comfortable saying that I can write the songs that I wanna play and so I'm gonna do it. And, and you know, that comes with a lot of time and it's like, you know, especially somebody like me who was this different thing and then had something pop off and it's like, well, people don't know who, who you are as an artist. And it's like, well, it's probably cuz I, I didn't know, you know, it comes for me. But it is very much that like, there's a piece there, you know, of knowing like, this is what I like and regardless of how successful it is or isn't, that's not the metric. The metric is did you hit the target you aim for? Yeah. I love that.
Speaker 1 00:21:11 It's pretty wild that you've had like a number one on Texas radio and like Terrestrial Country radio.
Speaker 2 00:21:17 Yeah. I was just, I mean, I, I didn't have number ones as an artist Right. As
Speaker 1 00:21:21 A writer. But I'm
Speaker 2 00:21:22 Saying Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean it's, you know, that's the music that I grew up. That's what I fell in love with and it was cuz you know, the radio at the time and, and I sense have more of a nuanced, I feel like I know that there's great songs that sing about stuff that I don't know anything about. Like, you know, but when I was first, you know, picking up a guitar, I wanted to hear songs about rais hell and, and, and hard times and, and, you know, getting your heart broke and, you know, the things that, that, you know, and I still love those songs and I was finding a lot of those songs in that Texas music scene. Whereas Country Radio had a lot of songs about how dope it was to be a dad Yeah. And a husband, you know. And I'm like, I, these are, this is just talking to somebody else.
Speaker 2 00:22:08 These, these are, these songs are not for me. You know? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And, and now I can appreciate a great song that's about something that, you know, isn't the main character doesn't look like me. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, I, I can, I don't have that problem anymore, but that's what gravitated me towards that scene. And, and, um, you know, now I'm in, you know, now I'm in Nashville and there's, there's more crossover now than there's ever been for sure, you know, with that. But you know, that just that authenticity there, you know, that music doesn't all sound the same and it's not all good. Uh, but a lot of it, you know, I fell in love with and, and the stuff and the part that I love about it, it was very authentic. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:22:43 Who were some of those artists from that like time and genre that you I was literally
Speaker 1 00:22:46 About to ask that same question.
Speaker 2 00:22:47 Yeah. Yeah, man. Well, you know, Cody Johnson for sure. I mean, that he was, he was one. Um, and then Casey, you know, Casey, Casey more of so as a collaborator, you know, um, that was a great, but the stuff that I fell in love with was like, uh, Charlie Robinson, Stoney Laro, haste, Carl, Randy Rogers band, um, Adam Hood, I love. Yeah, man, you know,
Speaker 1 00:23:12 Him too long ago.
Speaker 2 00:23:12 Yeah. Dude, I've, I mean, I, you know, I've, my path's been crossing with him for a long, I honestly, I tried to like be Adam Hood for the first like, few years that I played guitar. Like, I just copped everything. I was like, dude, what a, that all that soul plays a guitar. Cool. And the nicest guy, like, you know, and the
Speaker 1 00:23:29 Nicest guy.
Speaker 2 00:23:30 Yeah. Yeah. And just to, just to, you know, just, just comes out of him that way. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, but yeah, that, like, a lot of that, you know, then later, like Ibel and the drive drive-by truckers changed my life. Like, I remember in, I had a, I had a Dodge Grand Caravan, and I, I had a PA in the back and I remember, um, having a, you know, a calendar full of like, you know, 15 dates for that month. And I could not have, it was three in the morning, could not be happier. And I remember listening to, uh, the Southern Rock Opera record and, uh, zip City came on, and it was like one of the first times like I ever went, like that a lyric like that, like hit me in a way, in, in like such a deep way. Cause you know, I was in, I, I kind of came to music, you know, I always loved music.
Speaker 2 00:24:19 I didn't realize how much I loved it. Like, I thought everybody knew every song on the radio, but that's not the case <laugh>. But, uh, when I heard Zip City I auto, I, I immediately was like, oh, this guy's talking to me about me. Like, I get it. Because some of those people that was like, supposed to be these great songwriters, like Bob Dylan, like, it just, like, I didn't get it, you know? I didn't have the, I didn't have the vocabulary, like the, like the musical vocabulary to get that. And a lot of these super high brow, you know, great artists or whatever. But man, when I heard Zip City and I heard Mike Cooley singing that, and I was like, okay, these guys are paint with colors that I know. Yeah. And, and, uh, that and then Is Boy and you know, on Down the Line. But Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:25:03 Yeah. I remember the first time I heard Southeastern in that record, I was just like,
Speaker 2 00:25:07 Oh, yeah, just
Speaker 3 00:25:08 Engulfed. And the, oh, it was just, I, I had like such a, like, I remember to this day, like the feeling I had when I heard it. Yeah. And I was just like, wow.
Speaker 2 00:25:17 Tell about sad songs. Yes, ma'am. Oh, dude. Yeah. And it's like sad. But in this, there's also like this redemptive thing on that record, you know? And, and you know, I tried to go to, with, with my band, with my like first band, we tried to go to Muscle Shoals and cut a record with, with Jason and, um, well I got Fame or Yeah. At Fame. And, uh, that's awesome. Yeah. We, we did a week with him and, and that was kind of it. And, uh, we were just like, you know, I wanted to really just go there and I wanted to Jason to be like, oh, these are really, you know, great songs, man, you know, take me under his wing. But like, that, that didn't happen, but not be any knew his of his fault. Like, we weren't very good and my songs weren't very good, you know. And I would love to hear the tapes
Speaker 3 00:26:00 Though, if they're still
Speaker 2 00:26:00 Around. Oh, I wouldn't, I don't even know where they are. They're on a hard drive someplace. It would be. It was. And, but I will say this, like I've never, he's one of the most intelligent people I've ever been around. Like, I, it's, uh, and, and like effortlessly not being, like, trying to be that guy mm-hmm. <affirmative>, but you get in a room with him and you can kind of just feel the weight of Genius in a way. And not just about music either. He's just a really, really smart guy. And, uh, I was a great experience and one that I wasn't ready for. Um, but, uh, he was great to me. I, I went and watched him play a, a like a benefit for hospice a couple few years ago, I think maybe before Covid in, um, at the Bluebird Cafe. I was just, I was there and like, I just kinda walked up and he was like, oh, hey man, how are you? Like, I would not have expected him to remember me for nothing. And just super, I don't know, just got a lot of good things to say about, about that guy and about his music, man. Just like, wow.
Speaker 3 00:27:02 Yeah. I remember. I've gone to a lot of shows. Um, that's what I do. So <laugh>. But, uh, I remember seeing Isabel for the first time and just like, just feeling that weight of the songs. Oh
Speaker 2 00:27:12 Yeah. There's just like heavy. And I love a live Isabel show better than the records not be, I mean, I guess I do like him better than the records because he's shredding. Yeah. Like, he's so tasteful on his records and then he's very tasteful live, but live taste is different. Yeah. Like you, y'all, y'all, you probably cut up a little bit live when you Oh yeah, exactly. Yeah. And dude, when he gets, when Heap gets that down Les Paul on, or that tele slide. Yeah. Yeah. Man. And just ripping bro mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And it is heavy. And that band is so locked in, it's just like, it'll just make your hair stand up on your arm talking about it, man. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:27:55 It's, uh, it's interesting hearing like artists and like the artists that they love, you know what I mean? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, it's a, it's a, it's a cool thing that we get to get a part of being on this podcast, you know? Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1 00:28:06 <affirmative>, it's fun as when some of our guests are like such huge fans of each other, you know? I
Speaker 3 00:28:11 Know. It's nuts. Yeah. It's awesome. Super cool though. I guess that means we're like looking at the, we have good
Speaker 1 00:28:15 People on here, man. <laugh>.
Speaker 2 00:28:17 Yeah,
Speaker 3 00:28:18 Absolutely. Well, um, a cool moment that I saw you have is you were on the Bobby Bones show and uh, uh, you got to bring someone with you. Why don't you tell us a little bit about that?
Speaker 2 00:28:29 Oh, yeah, man. So, you know, Bobby's Bobby's an Arkansas guy and we, we kind of got to be buddies pretty quick, quick, can I say
Speaker 1 00:28:34 Woo Pig? Is that, is that the right
Speaker 2 00:28:36 Place? Pig Suly. Baby <laugh>. There we
Speaker 1 00:28:38 Go. <laugh>. We love
Speaker 3 00:28:39 It.
Speaker 2 00:28:40 So, uh, it was like, I can't remember what I was, we were just on that morning with the, with the Bone Show and uh, I didn't tell my mom anything about it. She was in town and I was like, Hey, we're gonna go get breakfast. I was like, cool. And I, and I was like, Hey, just make sure we're gonna get breakfast with kind of a group of people, so, you know, you might wanna dress up just a little bit, you know? So <laugh>, it's like
Speaker 1 00:29:02 Six 5:00 AM she's having to get up, right? Yeah, exactly. So early
Speaker 2 00:29:05 That show. So we ride in there and I take her to The Bone Show and, and she thinks I've just brought her to watch me on the Bobby Bones Show, and she's elated. And I'm like, yeah, no. Huh. I talked to Bobby about having her on cuz it, you know, mom was like getting kind of like in her own world, kind of active, like, sort of in social media stuff and changed her, you know, handle to Matt ST's mom. Matt's mom.
Speaker 3 00:29:28 Yeah. So granted
Speaker 2 00:29:30 Like, you know, just post like funny stuff like roasting me stuff, but then also, you know, she's just such a badass, you know, barrel racer and, and, uh, you know, works on the farm, you know, does all that was a, you know, got a PhD as a single mother largely. And, um, so, you know, she's got a lot of life and a lot of, you know, sweet lady, but just like a badass. And so I took her on Bobby's show, like I I'd, and so I got her on air and Bobby, you know, those interviews are however long. Bobby talked to my mom for like 20 minutes because she just, she's just dope man. I, you know, she's cool, she's sweet. And she was like mortified that I did that, but I knew if I told her she'd be nervous about it, you know? So I just drug her on there and like, it was the like, it's almost like unfair, you know?
Speaker 2 00:30:15 It's because when you do those kind of interviews, right? There is a promotional aspect to all this. Yeah. It's like, okay, well, you know, and check, make sure to check out Matt Tale's new, blah, blah, blah. Here's a cheat code, bring her down, mom <laugh>. Yes. Because she will say a bunch of great stuff about you and it's not forced at all. Like, my mom thinks that almost every song I've ever written is just unbelievable. And almost every show that I've ever played is unbelievable. So it's like the greatest cell job in the world. So cheat code, literally. Same as my mom for sure. Oh, yeah, yeah. Cheat
Speaker 3 00:30:46 Code. Mine too, man. She, uh, my mom used to, our radio show was on like nine to midnight on Sunday nights, so she would just go to bed early, then wake up so she could listen to our radio show, you
Speaker 2 00:30:59 Know. Oh, my mom's just same way. She reads, she reads every bit of press. Uh, she's like, why didn't you post about that interview? I was like, mom, I, I did that interview like three months ago and they ran it or something like that. Or, oh, you sounded so good on, on this and that. Like, awesome. Thank you. I don't remember. We're doing it. Hey, cheers. The good moms. Cheers.
Speaker 3 00:31:18 Cheers. The good
Speaker 2 00:31:18 Moms. Cheers. A good, I gar what mom will be, mom will be streaming this, uh, this episode. Same with mine, for sure. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:31:27 It's funny. Kurt's mom, um, every time that we have a guest on She'll like, buy the record. So if you have a vinyl, I'll expect one to be sold. You got
Speaker 2 00:31:33 Any vinyls for sale or CDs or, I I don't this, but this next project that I'm making is like, it will be what I have pressed into vinyl and like, what I will have is my tombstone. You know what I mean? Yes. Right on. Like I, yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm so jazzed about, about like that creative space right now, but Absolutely.
Speaker 3 00:31:52 Yeah. I love to hear that. It's, it's amazing to hear artists like really be excited about what's coming. And, uh, are, are you like, like writing for a record or?
Speaker 2 00:32:00 Yeah, man, I've got, I've got, um, I would say most of it written, um, a little of it tracked. So we're, we're a little ways out on having like a complete deal, but, um, who's producing it, but, uh, um, you know, Joe Fox is gonna produce a lot of it. Um, I think, I think the way I'm gonna go about it though is I'm going to, uh, upgrade some stuff. So I'm gonna have some of the people produce it Rhode on that. Krista Stephano will definitely be pretty good. Yeah, man, most freak a freak. Well, he's an animal dude. Love that guy. Um, he'll definitely be on there. Um, Andrew Dros, uh, you know, we wrote, he, he and John Knight and I wrote a song the other day that I love and I love the demo so much. I think we'll probably just upgrade it, but I think I'll just be, you know, my role in, in, in the production will be to tie it all together to make sure it's all cohesive Yeah. From all these other people. But if I had to guess, uh, Joe will probably have the most, uh, the, you know, he'll probably do the most producing, uh, on the record. Sounds
Speaker 1 00:33:00 Like it's in good hands, man.
Speaker 2 00:33:01 Man, I, I'm really proud of it, man. I, you know, I know what it, I know what it's gonna sound like in my head and I, and I'm around people now that I'm not gonna have to compromise or go to war or feel like I need to like back off of my expectations or my ideas and, and if, if I have bad ideas, which I have lots of them <laugh>, uh, we'll still try 'em and we'll get the best thing out of it. And I've got people that are excited about that process with me as opposed to people that are think they know, you know, what it is that I need to do. So
Speaker 1 00:33:31 Can you tell us a little bit about your live show? I know you're talking about rocking out with the guys.
Speaker 2 00:33:35 Yeah, man. I mean, and it's probably, you know, it's, it's probably weird as some people out that came for the Pray for You Guy, you know, because it's not, it's not that all night, it's mostly not that. Right. It's mostly, you know, heavy kind of up tempo songs that are, that are played by, you know, a band that is like rocking out for a lot of it. So, um, that's what it is. And it's, uh, it's, I'm trying to play the kind of show that I wanted to go see, you know, if I want to, you know, if American Aquarium came to town, I would go see their show. Cause I know they'd rock out, right? Hard playing songs that the lyrics mattered and mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, you know, those kind of bands and bands that I'm excited about. And so that's that energy and that, you know, the energy really the energy and the, and the weight of the, of the songs and how we play 'em because, and like is Will, like we mentioned before, you know, some of those songs are like, they're unintentionally heavier live, you know, he's not like trying to rock them up and uh, but, you know, and I guess we really try to either, but they get rocked up and, and uh, that's, those were my favorite shows,
Speaker 3 00:34:37 Man. Me too. Yeah. I remember seeing your live show and it's, yeah, it's very upbeat. The crowd's interacting with it. It's great to see you, man.
Speaker 2 00:34:44 Yeah, man, I, you know, I, I appreciate you saying that. It's, uh, something a little
Speaker 1 00:34:47 Different than the record for sure.
Speaker 2 00:34:48 Yeah, I mean, it, it is, it's different from the, um, yeah, yeah. It's different from the music in that way, you know, it's just, it's kind of just, you know, kind of tuned up for the live show. Yeah. Um, but I think that, I think this next project will will definitely be something that, that is, will play it a lot like the record, you know? Mm-hmm. <affirmative> mm-hmm. <affirmative>. We, we generally do, but, but you know, we do our own little things. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:35:13 So when you're not doing music, like what do you get into, man?
Speaker 2 00:35:16 Well, if I'm not playing music, I'm, uh, probably playing golf or I'm hunting or I'm, you know, doing some stereotypical basic bro stuff, but I don't care. I love it. So, yeah, so I mean, I love to play golf. That's, I love to gamble on playing golf. Um, you know, I can watch almost anything, almost anything on TV if they're keep a score sports. Like I just, I, yeah, I just, I enjoy that, you know, NBA playoffs right now. I love it. You know, I was a basketball guy, um, hockey playoffs too. Love it. Obviously football in the fall. Um, the, uh, what's next week? Uh, PGA is next week. Yeah, love that. Like I'm all about that. I do read quite a bit too and um, you know, mostly non-fiction, but I try to make some fiction in there. But, uh, yeah, those are kind of my things, man. I wrench on a truck every now and then too. Yeah, it sounds like it. Yeah. Yeah. Not like nothing major, like I'm, no, you know, I'm no Tim the tool man Taylor or anything. Oh, <laugh>. Well I got that Jeep in
Speaker 3 00:36:13 The front yard if you want to come get it running <laugh>. What
Speaker 2 00:36:15 It sounds like that sounds like actually during Covid, Joe and I, Joe Fox is pretty handy with motorcycles, so, um, we bought a little Honda that somebody couldn't get running and uh, we actually, we didn't get that one running. He sold it with the par, but he, he had like, he had gotten several of those like kind of old older bikes running and, and uh, so, you know, I like to do that. It was definitely fun to do it over Covid, you know, cause I had a garage and we just kind of did our thing. But, um, but yeah, man, just that's what I, and I like to be oops, oops. Like to drink a, drink a beverage every now and no one wants a little colder, a little cool water sandwich. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:36:51 No doubt. So are you a member at any golf courses around here? Or just go everywhere?
Speaker 2 00:36:55 Yeah, I'm a member at, uh, at Augusta? Yeah. At Augusta. Nashville <laugh>. Now I'm a member at Vanderbilt Legends Sweet. Down here. And, um, like everyone in music is a member at, uh, at Old Hickory, so I'm not, but I don't really need, like, I can just go and play with them anytime. Right. Yeah. So it kind of works out. Um, they probably think I'm a member. I'm there like rather frequently. So
Speaker 3 00:37:19 <laugh>, well, it's not too far from here, you know?
Speaker 2 00:37:20 No, it's literally like, yeah, it's very close.
Speaker 3 00:37:23 I've only been there once cuz I'm not a good golfer, but I hosted, uh, like a after party of a, like a charity event, so Oh, yeah. Yeah. Interesting. A blue water thing or? Yeah,
Speaker 2 00:37:32 Blue Water. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I played out there in that tournament at one time at the
Speaker 3 00:37:36 Er. Yeah. Super cool. And it was, uh, definitely interesting. We're talking about having a disc golf tournament next year. Oh, dude.
Speaker 2 00:37:43 Rays rowdy disc golf. Yeah, so my band is big in it. My bass player is like, like, what's his name? Really good. Matt Morganson. Matt. Matt,
Speaker 3 00:37:50 I know him, yeah. With the goatee.
Speaker 2 00:37:52 Yeah, he got the full beard. He got a beard like you, not quite as long, but it's, yeah. Yeah. When I met
Speaker 3 00:37:56 Him he just had that
Speaker 2 00:37:57 Goatee. Yeah, yeah, yeah. <laugh>. Um, so Matt is, uh, Matt's really good. My whole band plays up. I went for the first time the other day with him. We were somewhere in like North Carolina and, uh, there's like a disc golf course right there. I was like, you know what, I'm gonna go hang out with these guys. And, and I went, it was fun. Its cool. Cool. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:38:15 I call it tricking yourself into hiking <laugh>, you know what
Speaker 2 00:38:17 I mean? <laugh>. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 00:38:19 I was like, it's like exercise, but you don't have to like try us. Yeah. You're
Speaker 2 00:38:21 Literally doing this same thing as a golden retriever. Yeah. Yeah. You throw it and you just go get it. Yeah. It's fun though. I like it.
Speaker 3 00:38:27 Yeah. I'm just very bad at regular golf and I'm also very bad at disc golf, but I just don't feel quite as bad about it, you know? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. That's
Speaker 1 00:38:35 Fair. I got bit by the golf thing so bad. Yeah. And then I got what I got into like photography and I kind of waned off of it, and then I got into trying to learn the fiddles, so I don't
Speaker 2 00:38:44 Oh my God, I does you, you're probably good enough. I mean, I know you are at, you know, just having an instrumental background, but starting, I feel like everybody that plays fiddle started before they could like Yes. Talk mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, where they were still cutting teeth. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:39:00 Yeah. All the people, all the photo players that I tell that I'm trying to learn, they're like, as an adult. Yeah. I'm like, oh boy, <laugh>. Oh.
Speaker 2 00:39:07 Oh, that's gotta be so tough, man. It's tough.
Speaker 3 00:39:10 It's funny watching Kurt learn fiddle because like, since I've known him, he's been good at everything that I've ever seen him do. Right. So it's like interesting to watch him like really work at learning something <laugh>. Well you sucked at first, but now you're getting better and it's cool to watch. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's,
Speaker 1 00:39:24 It's brutal man. I, uh, I just played it for the first time. Luke's got that single Love You anyway mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And so it's got the fiddle intro and we've been using Flatlands fiddle player West to come out. Yeah. And Tyler, our Bandler's, like, dude, you sound good enough, just do it with us. I was like, okay. And I just, this Saturday I got up and from noon to Showtime, I just like played that one song and I was like, this is sounding pretty good. And I get up on stage and we're playing a fucking stadium show and you could hear like, my hand shaking in the bow. It's like, <laugh>, you
Speaker 2 00:39:56 Got a little on there <laugh>.
Speaker 1 00:39:58 It's
Speaker 2 00:39:59 Crazy, dude that's in fuck. That's incredible, man.
Speaker 1 00:40:01 Spook. Yeah. It was spooky. <laugh>
Speaker 2 00:40:03 <laugh>. You said that was spooky. Yeah,
Speaker 1 00:40:05 It was. Man.
Speaker 3 00:40:06 So you golfed, do you bet on golf or do you bet on any other sports? Do you have a sports book guy?
Speaker 2 00:40:11 Oh, I fancy a wager. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. I like,
Speaker 3 00:40:14 I've been getting more into that recently.
Speaker 2 00:40:16 Yeah. I mean, I really, a lot of times I like to just do it so that I have kind of a, like a rec reasonable watch, kinda put your money where your mouth is kind of a thing. And dude, I don't like, I just need a little bit of a taste sometimes. Same, just, you know, I'm not trying to like make or break, you know, anything doing that. But I like gambling on golf though. I, I enjoy that a lot. Like when I'm playing, um
Speaker 1 00:40:38 Oh, like with the people you're playing?
Speaker 2 00:40:39 Yes. Yeah. I like to have a little wager going on, man. It always adds a little something to it, so. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:40:44 I have a couple buddies that started, we started a Razor Rowdy racing podcast. Oh yeah. So they're big NASCAR guys. Yeah. So they're like talking about their betting strategies and stuff, like why we do the podcast. Right. And I like sit on it. Cause I don't really know much about nascar, so they're like, you keep us honest that we're like not talking above people's heads, you know?
Speaker 2 00:41:01 Yeah, right.
Speaker 3 00:41:02 And, uh, absolutely. But I started like taking notes on what they're betting and betting it and they're doing pretty good. I love that I'm up like 35 bucks. I'm the same way. I bet. Like two or $3. Like I'm not, I'm not doing anything crazy, you know, man,
Speaker 2 00:41:12 Just enough to uh, get your name in the ledger. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 00:41:15 Just, just enough to make it a little fun.
Speaker 2 00:41:17 Absolutely.
Speaker 3 00:41:18 It's, uh, it's cool though, like getting that I'm like learning more about it, you know.
Speaker 2 00:41:22 Yeah, man. Like when I was a kid, like, we watched football Sunday night and Monday night, like when we got outta church, we went to my grandma's house and she'd have Thanksgiving cooked every Sunday. What a blessing, man. Man. Sounds awesome. Yeah. Shout out Sister Mary Ruth. And, uh, but we were a NASCAR house. We watched racing, we watched the race every Sunday afternoon. That's what we watched. And um, you know, I was, I was into it. Uh, and I'm kind of back into it now. I'm actually, uh, gonna go play a, um, a, a benefit for, uh, for Kyle Bush and his family, uh, coming up with their charity. I'm excited to go, uh, to go out there and do that with Kyle and them and, um, yeah, it's gonna be great.
Speaker 1 00:42:06 That's gonna be cool, man.
Speaker 2 00:42:07 Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:42:08 Yeah. It's, it's cool seeing those guys too. They're freaking fiery man. Like watching like fights and,
Speaker 2 00:42:15 Yeah. I
Speaker 1 00:42:15 Didn't know it was like that so much.
Speaker 3 00:42:17 I know, man. It's nuts. And like, it's crazy having guys that are so into it, like, our buddies that started the pod, just like, they're, they know everything.
Speaker 2 00:42:25 Yeah, man. It's
Speaker 3 00:42:26 Freaking crazy. And I'm like, absolutely. We was talking with Matt, my business partner in Ray Rowdy and his girlfriend's mom is like them, like, she's like, oh, for real, like 65. And she talks about NASCAR all day. She runs like a fantasy NASCAR league, and it's like, wow, she's nuts about NASCAR's. That's just, that's so cool. Super interesting seeing that stuff.
Speaker 1 00:42:44 We played a event at Junior's House.
Speaker 2 00:42:47 Oh really?
Speaker 1 00:42:48 Yeah. And he's got this whole town built there and it's like, um, it, it's kinda like Disney World. It's like a western Yeah. Town. Like it's, there's a jail in a saloon and stuff. And I was like, you guys ever put anyone in the jail? And they're like, all the time, like, they would do the race, fly home and have a party every, like, every week. And they have these huge parties in this western town. Damn. And if someone got too drunk, they would literally lock him in the drunk tank.
Speaker 2 00:43:13 That's incredible, man. Yeah,
Speaker 1 00:43:14 That's, he has like a town, like on his property. It's awesome. That's
Speaker 2 00:43:17 So cool, man. I went to the 500 this year for the first time Daytona, and it was, it was sick, dude.
Speaker 1 00:43:22 Yeah. The people watching there is awesome too,
Speaker 2 00:43:24 Dude. It is. But it, you know, it's in like, there is a lot, you know, people talk about, you know, oh you turn left or whatever that, you know, no. That there is so much to it and it's, um, the organization strategy. Strategy, yeah. The mechanics side of it, you know, what the drivers can do and can't do. Like, it's, if you've never been, it's, it's worth going. And just the sheer power of how loud they are and how fast they are like you, it's, it's, you deserve, you owe it to yourself to go see a race in person if you haven't. Man, it's so fun.
Speaker 1 00:43:56 It's kinda like hockey. It's so much better in person.
Speaker 3 00:43:59 Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:44:00 It doesn't translate well to tv. You know, football obviously, it's great. Yeah. Basketball translates pretty good. Yeah. To, to television. But man, yeah, the hockey's, hockey's tough, you know, to on tv, but once you get, well, obviously golf, you know, golf's hard to cover, but it's one of those things like if you've ever done it, then that's when it all makes sense of like what they're doing, how hard it is and mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, how much the pressure is and all that. And it's kind of, you know, NASCARs it is one of like, once you go you'll see and it's just, I can get interested in anything people care about. Yeah. If you're passionate about something, it's probably gonna rub off on me. Like if we went to the horse races and, you know, a lot about, I mean, I like that anyway, but let's just say, you know, never, like, I would love that, you know, I can watch a documentary on, on people doing stuff that I have never heard of. It would never think I would care. But that passion is infectious, man. I love it. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:44:56 You talked about basketball. Did you play basketball? You're very tall
Speaker 2 00:44:59 Also. I did, man.
Speaker 3 00:45:00 And that's probably the most radio question I ever
Speaker 2 00:45:02 <laugh>. Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:45:04 It's all <laugh>, dude. I, yeah, it's, it's all good though. I did, man, I hooped, that was my first dream and you know, I got to play in college and that was cool. And um, actually really that dream turned into this one because I was on campus all winter break and you don't go home when you're playing basketball mm-hmm. <affirmative> for winter break. And so you practice and you go home. And so it was like either playing Tiger Woods on PlayStation, or I got bored of that with my teammates and my mom had got me a guitar when I was like, 12 Christmas. Never touched it. Hey, bring that up. You know, just to home game. She did. And that's where I sat in front of my computer learning it. So, but yeah, man, I love basketball. I love the game. Um, I love Who's your team?
Speaker 2 00:45:47 Uh, you know, <laugh> Well right now with, you know, the teams that are left, there's, there's, uh, you know, I love watching Denver play, man. I, I love Yoko's game. He's just like a seven foot Larry Bird. That monster passes better shoots, maybe a little worse. I don't know, just all time. There's just, the league has so much talent in it. And I'm a big NBA guy, which I know is like, you know, doesn't always, that's not usually people are like college fans. I like NBA better personally. Uh, it's, it, there are two different games and, um, you know, college basketball, I will watch the Razorbacks, anything they do, you know, I I I love the hogs. I can watch them and I can watch a blue chip recruit, you know, in, in, um, college basketball. The tournament's. So fun. That's different, you know? That's right.
Speaker 2 00:46:32 The tournament is a spectacle, but like, regular season games in like, you know, the, the, the, the Pac 12 regular season games. If there's not like a highly touted, uh, prospect or if I'm just at a bar and I need something to, you know, bet on to do mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I'm not. It's just, it's just hard to watch, man. It's just the, the, the size and skill of the NBA is breathtaking, man. It's wild. And it's wild. So that's really more my speed. But, um, you know, a lot of people love college basketball cuz it seems like they're trying harder and it's like, they're not trying harder. It's just like impossible to guard some of these guys. Like, you can't, yeah. You can't try so hard to stop yoic from Right. Dyson you up. Or like, fill in the blank. Like, if you, you, if you think there's literally any person on planet Earth that can stand in front of Jason Tatum and make him not get a bucket. Now some people make it a little harder, but it's just, they're just, they're just absolute.
Speaker 1 00:47:33 I got to play basketball with the NBA player once. Who was it? Uh, Walter McCarty. I don't know. He was a three point specialist for the Celtics for like eight or nine years. And I'm going to, I think he won the M B C A championship with Louisville. Okay. Hope that's the right team. And, uh, but he was coaching some college where we played at Arena there. And we would, we'd play, we'd either go to the gym or play basketball like every day. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And so we went and played basketball this day and this dude is like, he's like a three point specialist, but he is six 11. He's like 60 years old, can still dunk. I mean, he is not that old, but Yeah. Um, my favorite story is I was like, coach, if I dedicate my life starting right now, how long would it take for me to dunk? Like, if all I did was eat right, work out and do everything, he's like, Kurt, you know, sometimes we're just not built for certain things.
Speaker 2 00:48:28 <laugh>, it's, it's the same. Like, it's the same thing with, with musicians really to, um, you can practice and get better, but your ceiling is your ceiling. Like, there's no way I couldn't sit here and practice enough to ever be the kind of player that you are that knew. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:48:48 I'll never be Stuart Duncan on the fiddle, you know,
Speaker 2 00:48:50 Or whatever. Yeah. Right. So it's like once you realize that and that's not the Yeah, I realized when I was in, you know, I had hoop dreams until I was, I played against LeBron James in AAU one time. I played against, played against it twice.
Speaker 1 00:49:06 Seriously? Yeah. Damn.
Speaker 2 00:49:07 That's cool. I played against LeBron twice. One and one actually. We won one game. Heck yeah. The, the pool play game and then the gold medal game. He, like, he put like 45 on us <laugh> and he looked skinny back then. Yeah. You know, if you see V he was 6 8, 2 30, 2 40 maybe he was a B and I was six five. As, as we stand here, I'm six seven, uh, about two, almost two 30, you know, 2 20, 2 30.
Speaker 1 00:49:35 I'm 6 1, 2 15. I have to go to the gym. <laugh>. Well,
Speaker 2 00:49:39 But my thing is, at the time LeBron was every bit as I was 6 5, 180 5 when I playing. He was 6 8, 2 30. Let's just conservatively say that. And it's just, it's just a different like level. Yeah. And then, so I'm playing against him and I'm like, okay, well then he gets drafted and stuff and, and I'm like, okay, well, you know, he's the greatest prospect since like Wilt Chambers, since he's the greatest prospect since, you know, Lou Al sender since like, you know, Kareem. So, okay, whatever. Well, my first year of college ball, I come back to work for my dad in the summer, you know, on, uh, he was a contractor at that time, and so I was doing that. But there's a pro-am league in Little Rock called the Dunbar League, I guess they still do it. And it was like when, you know, when people would come back to town, like at the time, like Corless Williamson, um, and a couple others, you know, some high D one guys, some pros.
Speaker 2 00:50:34 And I was playing in this league, why Little Joe Johnson's there and Joe Johnson may sound like a, oh yeah, maybe I've heard of that. Joe Johnson has the smoothest game in the, like his, they call him Io Joe. You give him the ball and he's just going to get, he's gonna work you and it's gonna look like it's, it's gonna look like the way that forever after all sounds <laugh>. Like just absolute, just murder you in the smoothest ass way. <laugh> just kill you. And so, I mean, he was like, again, he was six eight, his chest was like three phone books. Thick dude. I mean, she, he, at this time, he was an all-star with the, uh, Phoenix. He was in those Phoenix teams playing with Steve Nash stuff. He was an all-star. Or maybe he was with the Hawks then at that point. But whatever, dude, you know, I, I'm like, I I'm in the best shape of my life, you know? And, and, and they're throwing the ball to him in the post and he is like grabbing it one shake and taking like this step back. It wasn't a step back. Like he, his, he, he, he floated back like 15 feet and just hit this smoothest j right over me. And I'm just like, not
Speaker 1 00:51:39 Even close to you.
Speaker 2 00:51:41 No, Dolly not, and, and, you know, I'm like, yeah. And, and that's when I knew, I was like, okay, well this basketball thing, I got my school paid for, whatever, this is great. But, uh, I probably, if I do this for a living, it's gonna be in some country that ends in Stan. Right.
Speaker 1 00:51:56 <laugh>. And uh,
Speaker 2 00:51:58 That's great. Yeah, man. And so I was like, okay. And so we picked the guitar up, but, um, but yeah man, I love the game. Still love to play some, um, yeah, I'm, I'm the best player in, in country music. I can promise you that, but <laugh> <laugh>, yeah.
Speaker 1 00:52:12 Well, well I'll take that back. Anybody against him for sure. I'm trying to think of who. Cuz we were just on tour Jordan Davis and we played like rivals.
Speaker 2 00:52:21 Oh, I love it.
Speaker 1 00:52:21 Yeah, it was great. And it was, it was tough, man. Like we would beat them, we'd play best of three games, whatever. And then we, and the next weekend they would win it. And then end of the tour we ended up winning be just because we had more bench players. This is the only reason <laugh> and, uh, but like their, his photographer played college ball
Speaker 2 00:52:41 And Oh, nice.
Speaker 1 00:52:42 And those guys are good. And, uh, I have a GoPro Uhhuh <affirmative>, and I'll show you the clip after the pop, but I clipped it up on the backboard and Luke hit this fade away jumper. Right. And Jordan's face, it was beautiful. It was, it was so, oh my, I love it. And so then, so that was the last game. And so I clipped it from the GoPro and I texted it to Combs. And then when they walked out, Jordan's like, oh, Luke, what are you doing out here? Come and watch the show. And we're like, yep. Here to watch your music. For sure. <laugh> walked as they're walking out in the middle of this arena. The the clip is on the all the jump. Yeah. Just seeing him like, and then was just talking so much shit. <laugh>,
Speaker 2 00:53:23 Dude, that's the best.
Speaker 1 00:53:24 I love playing basketball. It's so much fun,
Speaker 2 00:53:26 Dude. Hooping is great, man. Yeah. Like, I wish I was, I wish I would've golfed earlier in life so that I would've had some fundamentals there. But, you know, I feel like, you know, I can just kind of pick up a basketball and like, I can't, you know, not at like, any kind of high level anymore, but, uh, compared to
Speaker 3 00:53:40 These other jumps in country music. Yeah,
Speaker 2 00:53:42 Man. Like, honestly, honestly, like I, I will go as sofar to say that. I'm trying to think if there's any like, current rappers that are better than me. I don't think so. Like, I think I'm better than all of those dudes. Wow. I'm better than, yeah. I'm better than Quavo. I'm better than, uh, all of those guys. The only reason I'm talking all this shit and, and being very ful as I'm hoping that somebody let's go,
Speaker 1 00:54:04 Let's get a basketball rivalry
Speaker 2 00:54:05 Now. Absolutely. I'm, I'm just trying to starve some shit so that I get to play the Celebrity All-Star game. I thought I maybe got to play it this year cuz I'm buddies with Darren Williams and it was in Utah and whatever. I, but I didn't, but like, I'm just only talking this, this like arrogant bullshit. Just, just hoping to piss somebody off. So they'll be like, oh, well let's see, you know,
Speaker 3 00:54:25 When we clip this for the pod, we'll tag all 'em in it.
Speaker 2 00:54:27 Exactly. Tag, tag all of them in it. Like, I'm the, I did this like TikTok, it was the same thing. I was just trolling and I was like putting, I was like, look, I'm the best, you know, I'm, I'm the best at music. Like, there are, there are musicians that are better, like women Tisdale, you know, he, he was just played a Kansas, like he was a baller. But like, as it stands right now, some of those guys, camera on those guys can play Master P back in the day he'd get a bucket. But I'm telling you right now, I I, they don't want this smoke. <laugh>
Speaker 1 00:54:55 Alan Iverson's gonna have a country music career coming out soon,
Speaker 2 00:54:58 <laugh>. Oh my God. Yeah. I
Speaker 3 00:54:59 Think you could beat AI right now. Probably. Yeah. <laugh>. Oh dude.
Speaker 2 00:55:02 No way, dude. I dunno man.
Speaker 1 00:55:03 No way,
Speaker 2 00:55:05 Dude. He was like, oh,
Speaker 3 00:55:06 He was so good,
Speaker 2 00:55:06 Dude. He was also a, uh, he was a, just an absolute vampire. He would sleep, you know, he'd be in the club all night, sleep one or two hours. I don't get three hours, dude. Crazy. I don't get it. And then go and then, and then put, put 25 to intake, you know, take 30 shots, but, you know, put 25 on like in the league. Like, he's just an absolute alien, man.
Speaker 1 00:55:28 D Derek Rose came to one of our shows, you know, really. And then we were all hanging out. I'm like, and then the next day played a great game.
Speaker 2 00:55:37 Oh dude. I like, there's been times like I've heard stories cuz I've been, I, I've been friends with like a fair amount of N B A players. Like I tell you, me and uh, uh, Ron Harper as you know, like the five times Champ, Ron Harper played with Jordan, played with Kobe and all those guys. You know, Ron is like, I like call him dad now, he'll like come to shows and he text me just the other day about, um, we, we met at a golf tournament. And dude listening to those guys tell those stories about like the old days, like he was telling stories about Bird. Love it. And I, he was talking about, he was like, he was like talking about how, how Larry Bird would talk shit to everyone all the time, which is you, you know, you hear that about it. But like, he talked more shit than anybody.
Speaker 2 00:56:20 He said that Ron's first year in the league, uh, the Celtics were busting their ass. They was playing for the calves. You know, sos were busting their ass. He was like, coach, let me go. Uh, lemme go guard. Let, lemme guard, uh, Larry. He was like, oh, you wanna guard Larry? Okay. So he said he runs up to Larry Bird and Larry looks at him and goes, what's up Rook <laugh>? He said, congratulations, you gonna get to try to guard the great Larry Bird <laugh>. And he said, Larry Cannon in the court caught the ball. Or he said, he said he caught the ball and looked at him. He said, I'm gonna take two dribbles left. I'm gonna pull up on that elbow and I'm gonna drain this in your effing face. Da da pow. Wow. Got 'em. So run down the court the next time. He says, I'm about to post you up.
Speaker 2 00:57:01 He said, over my right shoulder, I'm about to hit a hook. Shot off a glass in your FM face. Gets it in the post one go ah, ah, puts off the glass smooth. He says, it's coming down the court the next time. And he said, I'm, he said, I'm about to pull up from here. He said he pulls up 35 for like a Steph Curry looking shot. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And he said, and Ron Harper was like, back in the day, was like a bucket getter and like a D defender. And he said he cocked that thing back behind his head like he did let it go. And he said, Ron comes at me. He said when he was in the air and he said, Larry goes, oh, that ain't going touch shit. And is all nothing. But it's like, dude, Larry Bird was a real one. No doubt.
Speaker 1 00:57:41 Yeah. If you love stories like that, bill Simmons book is awesome. Absolutely. Big book of basketball. Have you ready?
Speaker 2 00:57:46 Yeah. Oh yeah dude. Absolutely man. Love that book. Yeah. Oh yeah, that's right. <laugh>. That's right. Speaking of, uh, oh, oh, oh, my managers. He, he has his like favorite story. This is so I'm a big NBA guy. Love it. Right? Yeah. So my best friend Will, we're in, uh, he lives in Dallas Fort Worth area. So we're in a Mavs game and he, we got some buddies that work for the Mavs. So we have tickets like on the, the court front row, these boots were on hardwood. I mean my knees were pointed out towards the front. Nobody in front of us. Well, we're sitting there having a good time getting a few, you know, beverages. And, uh, there's these two As one does as one Yeah. Is want to do mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And so, uh, these two seats opened up next to us and about the middle of the first quarter, these two very lovely ladies, um, late forties, fifties, something like that.
Speaker 2 00:58:43 Sit down. Beautiful. Okay. So we're sitting there, a couple beers in, we're chatting and, and, uh, we're making 'em laugh and everything and, and, uh, doing our thing, you know. And so the the, we noticed that like the, um, cuz there's like waiters when you're on the up there, so, so like the, the, the waiter comes up and it was like, would y'all like something? And they were kind of skipping these ladies and we were like, would do, you know, my buddy said, you know, we was like, Hey man, ask if they want something. So I was like, we ordered another drink. And I was like, do y'all want anything? And, and, uh, y'all want a drink? And I, and they were like, oh, no, no thank you. I said, well, it doesn't have to be a drink. I said, you know, if you want some hot nachos, we can get those cracking too.
Speaker 2 00:59:20 If you want some hot nachos. They laugh. No, no, no. Thank you. So <laugh>. So we're sitting there chatting up and, um, again, on the court, like court side, right? So across, across, like at the media table, up a few rows is the, the TV play by announcer. His, his name is Skin Wade. So skin, uh, and my buddy will are texting and, uh, skin texts, my, my buddy. And he goes, Hey man, tell your boy to, uh, to ease up. He said what? He said, yeah, tell your boy to ease up talking to Cuban's wife like that. No <laugh>. And I'm not like getting outta school, but we're chatting up and they're smiling and laughing. So Will tells me this. So then it's like, eh, media timeout, or No, it was the end of the, it was end of the end of the quarter.
Speaker 2 01:00:14 And Cuban washed across the court and, uh, punches you in the face. He punches me right in the face. He washed across the court, hugs one of 'em, hugs, the other one, gives her a big kiss. And I swear I'm not making this up. Will would corroborate it. I cause some side eye from cubes, just a little bit <laugh>. And I was like, shit, am I gonna get thrown outta here? <laugh>? That was my first thought, my second thought. And so, so then halftime comes and we're like, you know, there's a, there's an air, like, there's like a bar area underneath the, the thing. And so they're back there. And so, you know, we walk up and I said, Hey, I just wanna apologize. You know, I didn't, you know, we were just having, and they were like, oh no, we love y'all. We're having so much fun.
Speaker 2 01:00:57 A lot of times people don't really talk to us very much. So it was so nice to have somebody to chat with us. And I was like, well, I'm sorry to offer you hot nachos when you already own all the hot nachos. <laugh> in this place. And she thought was so funny. And she was super sweet <laugh>. But, uh, but yeah, I guess I tried to, I tried to slide in on, uh, on, on Cuban's, uh, Cuban's wife every time. Man, you could have been a trophy boyfriend. Yeah, totally. Totally. I was like, I, I could learn how to take care of a pool. Yeah. <laugh>, I could dump some chlorine in or whatever. Got this. Yeah. It's easy. We'll figure this out. Well, so a lot more comfortable than being on the bus for sure. Yes. Oh yeah. AB absolutely man.
Speaker 3 01:01:30 I imagine what Cuban's bus would look like. It'd be pretty blessed, I imagine. Absolutely.
Speaker 2 01:01:34 Shit. Cuban's Cuban's bus would have a pool. Yeah.
Speaker 3 01:01:37 <laugh> on the top, top level.
Speaker 2 01:01:39 Exactly. Exactly.
Speaker 3 01:01:40 Exactly. Well, you talked about dms, you talked about hitting on Mark Cuban's wife. Like do you have any, uh, fun dating stories or anything that you've been into Terrible dating stories. What do you got?
Speaker 2 01:01:50 My Chris. Oh my god. I've got all of bro <laugh>. I've got all of those. But I will say the, the funniest one, it's funny that you asked me that, cuz this just happened. The, the day of the ACMs were Thursday this happened. It's a dolly. Please say it's Dolly. It's If it were Dolly, I wouldn't be here guys's. No
Speaker 3 01:02:08 Offense. Yeah, we like it. We like us too, but I'd be a dolly.
Speaker 2 01:02:10 Yeah, we, I, I'd be at, I'd be at Dollywood right now. <laugh>. There's a joke in there that I'm gonna leave alone, but that's fine. Uh, <laugh>. But your mom's listening, don't forget. Yeah, exactly. I was about to, I had a good one, uh, teed up, but I was like, nah, don't, don't need it. Yeah. Uh, no dude. So the other day I ran into, uh, well, I'm just gonna make this, I guess as short as I can. Like the other day I met, I ran into this girl that I had, uh, been on a couple dates with a, a couple years ago I was at this bikini fashion show in Nashville. Sounds,
Speaker 3 01:02:42 Sounds like a she must be terrible looking, you know. Yeah.
Speaker 2 01:02:45 <laugh>, she wasn't in it. She was just there <laugh>. But I was like, I was looking and I was like, Becca. And she was like, yeah, I can use your name. You'll, you'll know why here in a minute. So, uh, so I see her and so we're just chatting and uh, you know, she's an influencer and her, her manager's there and we're having a great time having some drinks before this thing. We got this, my buddy, uh, my buddy Teddy rob, a lot of people there. So we're sitting over there and, uh, Becca comes and sits down. We have a great time. Well, um, you know, just kind of reconnect. And then, uh, I see her the next day I'm walking in to, uh, to Soho to, uh, to work out. She's walking out and we kind of chat and she was like, I'm gonna make a, I was, uh, I was gonna make a TikTok about you.
Speaker 2 01:03:22 And I was like, oh, okay, cool. You know, well she posted this TikTok and it's like, I had forgotten how like the times we had hung out before, how it kind of went. And so she posted this TikTok and she was like, uh, yeah. So I dated a country singer this one time and this country singer hit my DNS up and, and uh, we went out and he was getting off the road on a Sunday night, so he tried to take me to supper, but the restaurant, he was one, it was closed, blah, blah, blah. You can find us Becca more. You can find her, take this hilarious, she's great. Um, and she was like, and I'd forgotten some of this. She was like, okay. Then the second date he was like, yeah, let's, let's go hang out again. Hey, by the way, can you snap me from the airport?
Speaker 2 01:04:01 Like, I asked her to pick me up from the, because I had just landed. I was like, fair. That's fair. Yeah. You know, and so she told that. And then, um, like I I, at one time, I think the, on the first date, like I accidentally called her Brooke <laugh> instead of, instead of back up and Yeah. And which is, you know, my first world problems. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Exactly. So then I see her at that fashion. She was like, fast forward, he sees me at this fashion show. We have a great time. You know, and he bought, I bought her this bikini cuz I was trying to support the thing and, and, uh, whatever I was, I was a little, I was a little tequila <laugh>. And, um, so she post this hilarious like I did and didn't say who it was. So everybody in the dms is trying to guess who it is.
Speaker 2 01:04:40 And, um, chase Rice was the favorite on who it would've been. I was a, uh, I was a, but I was in the mig. I was like a, I was like a plus 180 hunt underdog. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And so I just went on right before the, um, right before the, uh, ACM Awards and I, I like do edit it and, and was like, told kind of my side of it, which that was, she got most of it. Right. <laugh> and like the, I got out of the ACMs and it was like my biggest TikTok that I'd ever done. Like hundreds of thousands of people and like looked at this <laugh>. So if you wanna see a good Dayton story, it's, yeah, it's on mine or Becca Morris. That's sounds hilarious. It's so funny, dude. Yeah. She, she's, she's has a great sense of humor and, um, <laugh>, it was so funny. I did, I called her Brooke, man. Oops. I did. But, uh, yeah, I bought her in a very nice bikini. Hey,
Speaker 3 01:05:28 That makes up for it. I think even
Speaker 1 01:05:30 Steven. Yeah,
Speaker 2 01:05:30 Yeah. Turns out bikini's not a lot of fabric. Expensive expensive fabric. Yes. Yeah.
Speaker 3 01:05:35 Yes. Yeah. You're paying for the design work, I think. Yes. That's how it works.
Speaker 2 01:05:39 Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
Speaker 1 01:05:41 My best TikTok is me falling on stage.
Speaker 3 01:05:43 Yeah.
Speaker 1 01:05:44 And you're, it's, and it was in Alabama and I try, I thought it was so cool. I reached out, I grabbed this fan's drink and I like chugged it and like tossed it back. And when I turned around I just ate shit on this super shitty slippery catwalk like in Alabama. Dude,
Speaker 2 01:05:58 It's so easy to do. People don't understand. Yes. Like, and especially some of those, if if, if there's moisture, like if it's, if it's outside, there's gonna be
Speaker 1 01:06:06 Some moisture at Matt Soul concert for sure. <laugh>,
Speaker 2 01:06:11 They call me Duncan hn. There you go. I'm just kidding. Uh, yeah, it's easy to fall on stage. It's easy to fall off stage. Like those lights get up. I mean, you know, I'm not telling you anything, but like, it's, it's like a legitimate thing. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> to, to like not kill yourself every night.
Speaker 3 01:06:29 The funny part was who took that video was me <laugh> right up in the front row at Rock the South. And he didn't even know we were there, but we were literally like filming and caught it. We were like, oh,
Speaker 2 01:06:40 That's so funny. Was that last year at Rock the South? It was 20
Speaker 3 01:06:43 Years
Speaker 1 01:06:43 Ago. 21.
Speaker 2 01:06:44 Okay. I I was played there last year with, uh, with Morgan and Hardy and those guys and they had a te I was just say, I got a tattoo backstage. They, uh, yeah. Yeah. My whole Bandon crew got 'em, got me these mule shoes. Hell yeah. Oh cool. Yeah.
Speaker 1 01:06:57 Yeah. I know people do that with lighters sometimes. <laugh> like the <laugh>.
Speaker 3 01:07:01 Oh yeah. Well that's different. Yeah. <laugh>.
Speaker 1 01:07:04 Yeah. That's a little bit more drunk.
Speaker 2 01:07:06 Yeah, yeah. Yeah. That's like, uh, that's, that's less artistic and more like, like rite of passage, right? Yeah. Maybe I'll put one right in between the, the Mule shoe right there in the middle of it. <laugh>,
Speaker 3 01:07:17 We had buddies in the, like in college and they were like, we'd go to their house and drink when we were freshman. I mean, I never drank when I was a freshman or maybe I was 21 when I was a freshman. Who knows. <laugh>, whatever. So they had this thing and like, we would always go drink at their house and like, bring beer and hang out, whatever. Right. And eventually it got to where they were like trying to brand us with like lighters and stuff and I'm like, I'm good. I'm just gonna drink somewhere else. Yes. Yeah. I was like, I'm good. All my buddies, like, not all of 'em, but a bunch of 'em have like brands from a later and I was like, that's probably the dumbest thing that you could do,
Speaker 2 01:07:48 Man. I don't know how I got done playing basketball without any of those. Like a, a u tattoos? Yes. Yeah. Or like the PR hands. Yeah. You know, or like, or like the, the, the grim reaper holding the basketball, you know? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, like all of that stuff. I, I, so I kind of wish now that I had those, those shitty, those shitty praying hands tattoos.
Speaker 3 01:08:08 The an one T-shirt tattoos. Yeah,
Speaker 2 01:08:09 Exactly.
Speaker 3 01:08:10 Exactly.
Speaker 1 01:08:11 Next time you played Mertle Beach, let's go get one. Yeah. Oh
Speaker 2 01:08:13 Yeah, dude, I'm gonna get the old ai. Only God can judge me, you know, with like Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do. We
Speaker 3 01:08:19 Should get one that says only AI can judge me. That's the one.
Speaker 2 01:08:21 Oh, that's great. We should get tattoos right now.
Speaker 3 01:08:24 I have a, a couple. I don't have any, Kurt doesn't have any yet. His mom would get super mad if we got, my
Speaker 2 01:08:27 Mom got so pissed my first, she, uh, she, yeah, my mom got real mad.
Speaker 3 01:08:32 My mom just kind of, I mean, I got enough now that she kind of like, is just doesn't notice
Speaker 2 01:08:36 When they're a new one. Yeah, yeah. She's
Speaker 3 01:08:39 Like, what are you doing? And I was like, filling it up mom.
Speaker 2 01:08:42 I'm living life moms.
Speaker 3 01:08:43 Yeah. I'm filling it up. Yeah. All these are moments, or at least something I thought was cool for a little bit, you know? No doubt.
Speaker 2 01:08:49 <laugh>
Speaker 3 01:08:50 How many tattoos you have?
Speaker 2 01:08:51 Oh, I've got three. I've just got like two on my, not not any big ones yet. I've got like two on my wrists and then one, like a quote on my chest, a little small quote, but all of them, none of them have been in a tattoo par. They've all been like where a tattoo artist was at an event and I just get one like where there's like an open bar in the area. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. I got, I got one on my chest in Vegas at my buddy's anniversary party. He had like a tattoo artist come up to, uh, to his, to like the, the suite where the party was. And um, like think I gave like 25 tattoos that night. Like, I don't know how he did it, but, uh, that was my first one that I got. And then I got that one at Rot the South and I got this one at a, um, at like a beer convention. That's awesome. Yeah.
Speaker 3 01:09:38 So, uh, I got all my tattoos that you see are from my buddy Mike Stahl, he's a tattoo artist that he's from Toledo, but he does like, oh, I see. Some of Hardy stuff, Ernest stuff. Um, and when it was Covid, you know, you couldn't be like at a festival. So we did these things. We called summer camp and he came to one and it was like you could have 40 people outside together. Right. So we just kinda like bootlegged our own festival.
Speaker 2 01:10:01 Oh, that's dope. It was fun.
Speaker 3 01:10:03 And we just like drank too much in a field in the middle of Ohio, you know? Absolutely. We were doing that at festivals for years. It was just a different field. Right. You know?
Speaker 2 01:10:09 Exactly.
Speaker 3 01:10:10 So he did this one right here that's on the
Speaker 2 01:10:12 Top. Oh, the raise rowdy one.
Speaker 3 01:10:13 Yeah. So he did like this and he did, I think 25 that day. Ooh. Off the back of his
Speaker 2 01:10:20 Truck. And that's kind of a big ta like that's not an,
Speaker 3 01:10:22 It's just line work.
Speaker 2 01:10:23 Yeah. But, so
Speaker 3 01:10:24 It's not too bad. He's he's good, he's quick. Like even like this piece, which is big, he did it in like under two hours.
Speaker 2 01:10:30 Is that like Dolly? Like the Justice? Yes, the Lady Justice, but it's Dolly Parton. Yeah,
Speaker 3 01:10:35 It's Metallica and Justice for all album color, but, but with Dolly Parton. That's
Speaker 2 01:10:40 Fucking awesome.
Speaker 3 01:10:41 <laugh>. So like country music and rock
Speaker 2 01:10:43 The best things. Yeah.
Speaker 3 01:10:44 Yep. So we, we'll have to see if we have a t-shirt of this and Yes, that's, we made a t-shirt with, we had Mike do a takeover of the round. Oh yeah. And we made this into a T-shirt. I'll see if we have one
Speaker 2 01:10:54 Dude. I love that man. Absolutely.
Speaker 3 01:10:55 Absolutely. And then, uh, but it was funny because like one of my buddies got Ray's rowdy on his butt. Oh really? <laugh>. And he's like, anybody else have a razor out on their butt? I'm like, nah, bro. Just you
Speaker 2 01:11:06 Just, you homie. Yeah. <laugh> my, my buddy that that I got that first tattoo from has, has the Wrangler patch on his ass. That's amazing. Oh, that's funny. I love that. That's great. <laugh>. That's super great.
Speaker 1 01:11:16 Dude. That's fucking awesome. Uh,
Speaker 3 01:11:18 I, I don't know how we got the tattoos either, but here we are, you know, I know <laugh>
Speaker 2 01:11:21 All the things.
Speaker 1 01:11:22 Yeah. So maybe before we wrap it up, let's talk about some shows you got coming up or,
Speaker 2 01:11:27 Yeah, I don't even know, man. Like, I think I'm in Ohio this weekend. I love Ohio. I'm in, uh, God bless Ohio. Yeah, God bless Ohio. I'm in Oh shit dude, I'm, I'm, I'm back on the East coast for that, uh, for that Kyle bus thing. Yeah. Um, I'm, that's all I can remember. I, I look at my calendar to know like when bus call is and when Lobby call is. Like I can't keep anything for people. Like let me know when you're in town plan, like just public service. If anyone's ever said that to me, I apologize. I'm not gonna do that. <laugh>. Yeah. You're gonna have to look for me coming. I can't remember where everybody is and who texts everybody. There's actually like a website that lists all those days. You know, tell
Speaker 3 01:12:08 'em to turn the notifications on, on bands in town, you know? Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 01:12:11 <laugh>. Exactly. Except Ron Harper, he says that and I'm like, okay. And I text Ron, he lives in like Florida half the time in New Jersey or the other. So I hit, I'll hit the wor the five times Champ up. But
Speaker 1 01:12:21 Yeah, if you want, if you want it all, then that's different. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Speaker 2 01:12:25 Yeah. If
Speaker 1 01:12:25 Michael Jordan wants to come out, then we'll get him some tickets.
Speaker 2 01:12:28 Exactly. Exactly. We'll look out for him. Yeah,
Speaker 1 01:12:30 No doubt. Well appreciating you having on man and come spend some time with us and shooting the shit.
